The three pending renewals at Barça.

Hi community!

Barça's sporting management continues to work on contract extensions for Eric Garcia, Koundé, and Frenkie de Jong.

On July 7, FC Barcelona officially renewed their contract with goalkeeper Wojcieh Szczesny for two seasons. The Pole is still pending fair play and a transfer agreement to be registered in LaLiga, something Barça will easily achieve before the start of the season on August 16 against Mallorca.

The goalkeeper's contract isn't the only renewal that the club's sporting directors, led by Deco, would like to finalize before the start of the competition. Two of the players whose contracts expire on June 30, 2026, should be arriving sooner rather than later. These are Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia. The Dutch midfielder, who has gone from being questioned to undisputed and a regular for Hansi Flick, received a three-year renewal offer from Barça some time ago.

De Jong, who was displeased with the previous sporting director, is now only thinking about remaining at Barça, and his continuity is taken for granted. Everything is pending a personal matter, as President Laporta himself explained at the time. It is none other than his parting ways with his longtime representative, Turkish player Ali Dursun. This is about to become final. When he achieves this, he will sign with Barça with a new agent. His renewal is important for the club, as it will play in Barça's favor for fair play purposes.

Eric Garcia is also certain of his continued presence at FC Barcelona for a few years. The Martorell-born center-back has one more year on his contract and hopes to sign a new one sooner rather than later. After playing on loan at Girona during the 2023-24 season, he was an important player for Flick last season. His departure was considered both in the summer and winter, but the German coach refused to even consider the possibility. The center-back's versatility gave him plenty of playing time, both in his natural position and as a central midfielder or right back. He is non-transferable to Flick, who has requested a renewal. The player also wants it.

There's not as much urgency as the previous ones, but Jules Koundé's renewal should also arrive before the end of the year. The Frenchman has a contract until June 30, 2027, but his excellent performances call for an improvement and contract extension, considering he has always been a sought-after player in England. The Barça sporting directors and the defender's agent have held several meetings, the last of which was last Monday, and an agreement is close, although there are still some aspects to be ironed out before a new meeting. The renewal, according to Barça sources, will come, as the player has always wanted to stay at a club he opted for in 2022, rejecting other more significant offers. The unknown is when it can be signed, as it will depend somewhat on Barça's fair play.

See You soon!
