The German goalkeeper will undergo surgery to treat his back problems.
FC Barcelona has confirmed in an official statement what Ter Stegen had announced a few hours earlier: the German goalkeeper will undergo surgery to treat his back problems next week after speaking with the club's medical services and external advisors.
Barça has not specified how long the player will be out, something that will be analyzed after the medical procedure, although Ter Stegen himself announced on his social media that he will be out for around three months.
This won't be the first time he's undergone surgery for back problems. At the end of 2023, he underwent surgery for lower back pain caused by a herniated disc. On that occasion, he was sidelined for two months, but Barça's doctors have recommended increasing that time as a precaution and avoiding risks.
The operation will be performed next week by Dr. Amélie Léglise.
"First-team player Marc-André ter Stegen will undergo further surgery next week to address his lower back problems. This procedure will again be performed by Dr. Amélie Léglise under the supervision of the Club Medical Services at the Sports Clinic Bordeaux Merignac. A new medical report will be provided at the end of the procedure."
