Hi community!

"I'll be ready to decide which path I want to take and see what my options are," he told a Polish media outlet, admitting that "the young players at Barça" have given him "energy."

Robert Lewandowski, the FC Barcelona striker currently with the Polish national team, acknowledged that at 37 his career is nearing its end but wants to "make the most of it, not only on a sporting level, but also emotionally," he said in an interview with TVP Sport. The Barça number 9, who is in the fourth and final season of his current contract with the club, indicated that he will not delay his decision much longer. "I'll soon be ready to decide which path I want to take and I'll see what my options are," he affirmed.

In his reflection, the striker, who has scored 108 goals since joining Barça in 2022, clarified that he is calmly considering his options. "I'm relaxed. I don't know where I'll be or what I'll want to do in a few months. I don't have to do anything and I'm in no hurry," he stated. After more than a decade living in Germany, playing for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Lewandowski admitted that "the move to Barcelona and life in a different culture also changed me." "The birth of my daughters began to crack the shell I had built up over many years," he added.

The opportunity to play for Barça alongside such young and talented academy players as Lamine Yamal is a powerful incentive for a veteran like Lewandowski. “It really encourages me to know that there are so many young guys over 18 at Barcelona. They give me a real boost of energy. I feel great among them. I remember when I was a teenager and what I did at their age. I'm older than the parents of some of my teammates. They treat me like a father. It's funny, but very positive,” he described.

In that sense, he pointed out that he had “to rediscover new emotions within myself.” Last season he managed to score 42 goals for Barça, which helped them win La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey. “It's an individual competition, and I play a team sport. The team sometimes helps us score goals or win titles. Last season was very successful for me. I scored a lot of goals and won several trophies, which confirms that my level of play was very high,” he emphasized. “After so many years at the highest level, with pressure and expectations, there were times when I needed an external stimulus. I had to reconnect with new emotions. Over time, I gained a new perspective on many things. My career is nearing its end, but while I'm still playing football, I want to make the most of it, not only in terms of the sport itself, but also emotionally. I want to enjoy the moment and get the most out of it,” he reflected. Above all, because looking back, “for many years of my career, there wasn't even time to enjoy it.” “My motivation and concentration would decrease, and then it became more difficult for me to achieve new successes. I started with that idea, but in my maturity, I see it differently. I'm glad to know that it will end and that I won't be able to go back to it,” he explained.

Lewandowski was nominated in the 'Przegląd Sportowy' (Polish Sportsman of the Year) plebiscite for best Polish athlete of 2025, an award he has already won three times. The winner will be announced on January 10, 2026, during the Polish Sports Champions Gala. Among the 25 nominees are also tennis player Iga Świątek and volleyball player Wilfredo León. "It's a group of exceptional athletes, and being nominated again fills me with pride." The record for most wins in this Polish sports award is held by Justyna Kowalczyk, a cross-country skier, who won five times between 2009 and 2013, in consecutive years.
