Oriol Romeu remains without a club after his unusual departure from FC Barcelona. The Catalans and the midfielder from Ulldecona reached an agreement to terminate his contract during the transfer window, a key move to register all the remaining players, but it was announced several days later. Now, with the transfer market now closed, he is a free agent and continues to consider options to decide on his next club.
One of his new suitors appears to be Imanol Alguacil's Al-Shabab. The Saudi club is very interested in adding the former Barcelona player to their team, which already includes players such as Yannick Ferreira Carrasco and Moroccan striker Hamdallah.
A virtual meeting between the player's representatives and the Riyadh club is planned for the coming days to continue negotiations. Several clubs have contacted him after terminating his contract with Barça, although they are still waiting to finalize his future.
Al-Shabab's big signing this season has been Imanol Alguacil. After a somewhat disappointing return to Barça in 2023, Romeu headed to Girona on loan last season. He played 31 matches there in a poor season for Míchel's side, who were close to relegation in the final weeks.
