Hi community!

The Catalan midfielder spoke before the Euro Cup quarterfinals against Switzerland, the host country, and explained how she has progressed in the tournament after suffering from viral meningitis the week before the start.

The press conference headline was dictated by Aitana Bonmatí herself, and when she speaks, you have to listen to her. The reigning Ballon d'Or winner said that, faced with the possibility of reaching the Euro Cup quarterfinals for the first time, the only thing on her mind is the possibility of "continuing to make history" and that she expects "everything" from this team.

"We are a humble team; we don't dwell on the past; what's done is done," the Catalan midfielder noted. "There are do-or-die matches coming up, where you either win or you're out, and we want to do everything we can to stay in the game, without dwelling on the matches we've played, just for confidence, not to be complacent."

Aitana is confident that Spain will continue on track in this first phase, knowing that the subsequent rounds are decisive: "We're going to try to maintain this level. I expect close, competitive matches, difficult to win, but that's where great teams grow and are seen. I hope Spain continues to be seen."

The midfielder recounted her experience during the hospitalization for viral meningitis, which jeopardized her participation in the European Championship for everyone except her. "I never thought I couldn't be at the European Championship. You know me. My mentality, my desire to be in these tournaments. Something unexpected happened to me. I was doing great, training very well, I was in the zone, and suddenly I found myself in the hospital. A new experience, negative at the time, five days before the tournament started. These are frustrating moments that hurt. Today I can say that I'm about to play in the quarterfinals, and I'm grateful."

She acknowledged that she was eagerly awaiting the minute of the match when the medical team had told her she could play in the first matches of the group stage. And that now, fortunately, she's "100 percent" fit to play every game. "After leaving the hospital on leave for three days, my return to the field has been gradual. For me, it's been tough, exceptional, but I've learned a lot. I feel very well, and my face says it all: happy and content to be here, healthy and physically fit."

See You soon!
