Breaking the Silence Of Depression

Depression is real, yet many people suffer in silence because they are afraid of judgment and feel insecure about sharing their pain. Society often makes it seem like a weakness instead of a serious condition, and this silence only makes things worse. The truth is that depression grows stronger when it is hidden.

Silence can be a fast killer. I say this from experience. There was a time I went through depression, and it was not easy. I felt alone and misunderstood. In a bid to protect my peace, I stayed away from some friends for a long time not because we fought but because I needed space. Later, I made the decision to reconnect with them, and that step became part of my healing.

Another turning point was getting a job that required me to interact with people daily. At first, it was not easy. I struggled to adjust, and some people misunderstood me, which led to frequent quarrels. But as time went on, things began to change. I started meeting people who made me laugh, and gradually, I found joy again. Interestingly, some of the same people I had misunderstandings with are now my closest friends today.

Many people believe depression is just overthinking or lack of faith, but that is not true. People go through different struggles, and for many, financial challenges add to their emotional pain, making things even harder.

We all have a role to play. Let us learn to check on people, call them, listen without judging, and make them feel valued. As God helps you, help others. Depression is real, but together, we can make healing possible.
