The Crochet Obsession - Web With Roses, Skulls & Spiders (Complete)
Greetings Friends
It is FINALLY done. This one took way longer than planned but I am pretty happy with the final thing.
The idea sketch. It isn't exactly how this worked out, but I think it was pretty successful either way.
The first crochet spider web I attempted to make from a pattern. I did not like the way it looked, so started over, from my own 'pattern'
I made 2 chains of 100 stitches that I joined together to start my web, which had to resemble the original sketch.
After creating 2 more of the same type of chains, I was left with this mess of a thing.
This was the easiest way I could think of doing the actual weaving part of the web.
At first I attempted to crochet the web bits, but then decided that they looked too thick. The only way was to pretend to be a spider with the needle and sort of sew the yarn through the chains in a spiral shape.
That left me with this, which was pretty okay, but did not have the right shape yet. I had anticipated this and luckily already had the solution planned.
Some sewing thread and a bunch of little knots helped me achieve the desired shape pretty easily. Can't even explain how much I like when my plans actually work. It does not happen that often.
As this was made to be a hanging ornament kind of thing, I reinforced it a bit with hot glue along the back. This also helped me get the shape just right. Hot glue and yarn can make for some very stressful cat related moments. No one was injured though.
I found it easier to plan out other elements of the design by sticking the web up where it was going to go once complete. This was important especially for planning out my vines.
Twisting chains made this rather annoying to create, as it is all one chain with slip stitches, the curling shapes were created by using basic increases and decreases. Sure, just making some chains and shaping them afterwards would be easier, but I wanted the slightly more angular shapes that this method helped me achieve. The hot glue helped keep everything from stretching out too much upon hanging and also helped the final thing sit flat.
Test placement first. Once happy with the look of things, I attached the vine part to my web using hot glue. I would usually prefer sewing my crochet projects, but this needed as much as possible to keep the yarn from behaving like...well...yarn.
I created two different types of spider, one larger than the other. I feel like maybe I should add some red bits to their bodies. Too late to include that here though.

More hot glue, to pose the legs a little bit better.
I also made a bunch of these roses. A few more than I needed really. They are quite fun to create actually.
Of course, we needed a few skulls. Also very addictive and entertaining to make.

All the little bits and pieces, before assembly. It took ages to finally get to this so getting to see it all come together was very satisfying.

My resources are a bit limited right now, so the final tape free mounting on the door or whatever I'll end up using once I get to where I'm going will have to wait for a bit. Either way, I like the final thing and would definitely want to attempt creating a better version of it someday soon. Maybe with blue roses.
Well that's it for now. Till next time!

I love it ! The roses are especially good, and the spiders are just downright cute 😁
The only thing I'd have done different is on the web where I'd have done it all under more tension and hot glued it to hold everything straight. But it still looks awesome !

Thanks! I really like the little spiders too.
Maybe I'll attempt that for the next one, this one was definitely a learning experience
Wow, this is totally what we call creativity. Well done.
