That's deep..... I hope you find a way to claw back out of the gray zone soon ! Strangely, I think I see the same effect when I write; when everything is bobbing along happily I write soppy formulaic rubbish, but when I'm at the bottom of the pit my subconscious spits out some of the best (as well as most twisted and dystopian) work.
Exactly! Art whether it is writing, painting or even music usually comes from gray and darker places. The most interesting kinds at least.
