Busy day at work and a "Short Walk" at home! | Chamber Talk | Alive and Thriving on May 25, 2025 | Extra (HIVE + Health) Titbits
Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Friday, May 23, 2025!
Sunday work was somewhat busy for me. In the beginning two hours of both the morning and evening shifts, I had to consult more patients. A good number of patients came together at those times. At the later part of the shift, it was more relaxing. Two GP doctors joined the duty, too! I consulted 37 patients in my chamber on Sunday!
A cut-injury patient came to me in the morning shift. It was a somewhat crash and somewhat cut injuries. 4 stitches were required to close the wound!
Another patient came with severe left flank pain with urinary abnormalities. The features were suggestive of a left ureteric stone. During this summer, we are getting many renal stone patients.
I consulted at least 3 urinary tract infection patients. All of them were female patients. One of them presented with severe left flank pain with no passage of urine for the past 5-6 hours. Her urinary bladder was empty. Even though she said that she drank enough water, it looked like that wasn't enough. I asked her to drink 1L of water stat. She passed urine in half an hour, a small amount, but she passed. The urine results suggested infection.
One patient came with a hot iron burn to his abdomen. It happened two days earlier. There was a wound but that wasn't bad. We cleaned it and gave some medicines for it. He had an insurance policy. But, even for dressing the wound, we needed pre-approval from the insurance company! At first attempt, they rejected the dressing because it wasn't a cut injury. Later, on follow-up application, they accepted. Insurance drama never ends!
At home, I could walk on the treadmill for only 10 minutes on Sunday. I attempted to walk after 10 pm again but the circumstances didn't allow me to walk. I went to bed instead!
Extra Titbits
It could be a new one or a reminder
Health Titbits
UTI (Why common in females?)
Urinary infection is more common in females than males. Because of
The easy ascent of organisms into the bladder, due to the short urethra in females.
The absence of bactericidal prostatic secretions.
Minor urethral trauma during sexual intercourse.
Easy transfer of bacteria from the anus into the bladder, because of proximity.
