A Hectic Day at Work with 72 Patients! | Alive and Thriving on May 17, 2025 | Extra (HIVE + Health) Titbits
Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Saturday, May 17, 2025!
One of the GP doctors was off on Saturday. Another one was sent to the nearby clinic as a relieving doctor. Hence, I was alone in my clinic to manage the GP section. As usual, it was quite a hectic day for me. During the morning shift of 5 and a half hours, I consulted 38 patients. And, during the evening shift of 6 hours, I consulted 34 more patients. Altogether, I consulted 72 patients in my chamber on Saturday—one registered patient left without consulting the doctor because of the delay. In the visa medical section, 11 people came for the fitness test. I examined all of them.
I try to avoid injury cases while doing single duty. Because performing a procedure like stitching a wound takes a long time compared to consulting a patient in my chamber. Hence, I had instructions to the registration counter to refer all the injury cases directly to another clinic/hospital. But, still, one injury case came in the evening shift. Small cut injury to the right forearm close to the elbow joint. It needed three stitches to close the wound!
"Lack of proper counselling", "carelessness from the patient", or "financial issues" are some of the reasons a patient with a chronic condition like DM may stop taking all the management for the condition. That would be bad for the patient in the long run. Later, they would return with complications. During the evening shift, on such diabetic patient came who took off for full 3 years from the diabetes management. His latest blood sugar was over 350 mg/dl!
After returning home from the clinic, I was too tired to walk on the treadmill and play with my kid. After a light dinner, I went to bed just after 11 pm.

It seems like you had an extremely busy and challenging day at the clinic on Saturday!.
Managing 72 patients in a single day, along with handling the visa medical section and even an injury case, must have been exhausting.
The case of the diabetic patient who neglected management for three years is a stark reminder of how crucial consistent care is for chronic conditions.
Take care of yourself amidst all the hard work.
