More Distraction Than Connection: The Social Media Paradox

Social media become a part of our lifestyle, it was used a fun initial and when it becomes the part of our lives we also do not realise. I still remember the Orkut which was I guess the first social media platform I come across and I was in collage a that time. It was very famous among all of us and every one was sending the friend requests to each other. How many friends are in your list was the main moto atvthat time and how many likes you get in status you are sharing. It was I guess was just the start of socila media and then facebook come into picture. I completed the collage and started my professional life when I joined the facebook. At first it was looking different in terms of UI and useability but we get adaptive to it very fast and it was the end of orkut also. The face was big sucess and passes all other social media platform available at that time. The moto here was also the same, increase the friendlist and how many likes we will get in our posts. Almost all of my friend on orkut were migrated to the facebook and this was the end of orkut also. One platform is gaining the popularity and other was dying, I do not know if the orkut is live now days or not. This was the time when whatsapp was also start getting the popularity. The era of SMS was ending and the internet was changing the way people use to message each other. Their was some sites also which enable the use to send sms using the internet (actually when the daily free sms limit got exhausted I used them). The whatsapp was different form orkut and facebook as the messages you sent or received were not public so it was replacement of SMS only but with more functionality. Similarly the tik tok and instagram come into picture but here the major difference was the content and the way it was accessible. Here the contact available was in the come of videos, and people scroll and see the content form random people also.

Do I use the social media platforms, yes I do but their are some specific platform I preferred. I am on Facebook but using very rarely now days, yes my activities were high when I joined but now days I opene my account very rarely. Even I do not remember the last time I used it. Whatsapp is one I am using everyday to connect with my friends, relatives and for business use also. This is one of the best wasy to stay in touch without getting distracted by other things, which is very common with instagram and facebook. It's very useful for quick information we want to pass on to someone, but yes not all information available is correct so we must use our brain also specially for sensitive matters. I am using the instagram and the activities has been increased in past months. It is one of the platform which is mostly addictive and I guess it's true for others also. You start watching the videos and you will not able to control yourself scrolling fomr one video to another. And you will not even realise that how many hours you have spent watching the videos. I am using it to watch the tutorial and informative content. But you do not have full control over what will come next when you are scrolling the screen. Thats by it's very distractive also as this will move you awasy form your main moto.
This is the reason I believe this platform is more wastage of time. It is good got the developers of platform that you are spendingore time here but it's not good for individuals. The people are watching unnecessary content which does not add any value and they are just wasting their time. If I got the power to shutdown any platform then the instagram may be the first choice for me. And the reason is very straight forward, the platform is more wastage of time as compare to the useability.
