Focus on the present, not the past

The ability to change some important aspects of life has been a thing of fantasy to almost everyone of us at one time or the other. There is definitely something you wish you can change about your life or life in general and some of them require altering something that happened in the past.

If time travel was possible and we could go back in time to change somethings it may be advantageous in a way but at the same time it would carry some risks.
The advantages would include;

  • The ability to make amends when new information or reason comes up or when we realise that what seemed like a good choice proved to be bad
  • Ability to correct dangerous mistakes
  • Ability to reverse catastrophic effects or the outcomes

All these would help to correct some serious issues when the need arises but in addition they will lead to a lot of uncertainty too, falsehood and instability because things would be taking drastic changes with no warning.
One minute you are visiting one who was hit by a car next thing the accident was reversed and the person that informed you about the accident would seem like a liar or a rumour monger.
OR, a news agency would just be reporting an important happening and all of a sudden, it would be reversed and it would seem like they are broadcasting fake news. You could even be reading a newspaper report after sometime but the event that was reported has already been altered. It would be difficult to know what is true and what is not in such a life.

It would really be a chaotic life so I don't think it should be possible to alter past events with such ease.
Rather, we should learn to adapt to things that happen around us just as we have been doing all these while.

If it was possible, a lot of people would live carelessly expecting to easily go back and make amends or just keep living their life on a trial and error mode. If it works fine, if not, let's just go back and correct it.

There are some very important events that sometimes when you look at how things played out, you will wish it never happened and that it could be corrected. Like the elections that brought Buhari and Tinubu into power in Nigeria.
For those in Japan, they would wish to reverse those deadly bombs. And so on.

Since the possibility of time travel is only fictional, we just have to keep living carefully knowing that we cannot alter past events and so our best shot at having a good future is in making the right decisions in the present.
That is all that matters, that is the best we can do.

There would be associated ethical problems if time travel and alteration of events were possible. Like I said, it would be difficult to know what is real and what is not. That in itself is a big ethical problem.
I am of the opinion that the current condition is the best.
