Greetings friends of the architecture and design lovers community, I hope you are enjoying an excellent week.

This time I bring you pictures of the cathedral church of Barquisimeto, a temple that is characterized by its elegant architectural design that at the time revolutionized modern architecture.

My wife and I were recently there for the celebration of the funeral in honor of Pope Francis and then stayed for a while to take pictures.

The cathedral is also the end point of the route of the Virgin Mary under the invocation of the Divine Shepherdess every January 14 when she leaves St. Rose Church, accompanied by thousands of faithful.

The architectural design of this temple has the shape of an inverted flower of four petals with a central tower. Three of the petals are used to house the faithful at mass and the fourth petal is divided for the sanctuary and a conference room. Definitely the most striking of this work is the elaborate roof. It is formed by a large number of reinforced concrete ribs in the form of curved lattice forming a mesh.

Each small frame is covered with sheets of acrylic material sealed with silicone to the structure. Unfortunately the need for good maintenance is already evident because it leaks when it rains.

The internal floor is porcelain tile beautifully decorated with earth, gray and white colors that match the wooden benches built into pedestals attached to the floor. The side walls are stained glass windows showing religious images of varied colors.

In the center, just below the tower is the marble altar that rises above the level of the pews and is surrounded by semi-circular porcelain stairs with wooden edges.

Above the altar you can see the central circular core of reinforced concrete that serves as a structural element supporting the four petals and from there hangs imposingly, as if it were in the air, the image of Jesus crucified.

From any pew there is a good view of the altar at the time of the mass and the acoustics of the enclosure allow the sound to be evenly distributed in all directions, allowing the message and the music transmitted from the altar to be heard clearly.

When leaving the temple there are wide spaces and green areas that serve as a square for the recreation of the faithful and visitors. There is a very tall bell tower that ends in a cross and is equipped with speakers to transmit music or messages to the nearby population.

At the entrance of the temple is a trellis artistically decorated with wrought iron that give it a lot of elegance and all its enclosures are formed by glass windows and stained glass decorated and very colorful.

The cathedral of Barquisimeto is one of the main icons of the city and is a must for tourists who come to visit it.

En esta oportunidad les traigo fotografías de la iglesia catedral de Barquisimeto, templo que se caracteriza por su elegante diseño arquitectónico que en su momento revolucionó la arquitectura moderna.

Definitivamente lo mas llamativo de esta obra es lo elaborado del techo. Está formado por una gran cantidad de nervios de concreto armado en forma de reticulado curvo formando una malla.

Cada pequeño cuadro está cubierto con láminas de material acrílico sellado con silicón a la estructura. Lamentablemente ya es evidente la necesidad de un buen mantenimiento porque se filtra cuando llueve.

El piso interno es de porcelanato hermosamente decorado con colores tierra, gris y blanco que combinan con los bancos de madera empotrados en pedestales unidos al piso. Las paredes laterales son vitrales que muestran imágenes religiosas de variado colorido.

En el centro, justo debajo de la torre está el altar de mármol que se eleva por encima del nivel de los bancos y está rodeado por escaleras semi circulares de porcelanato con los bordes de madera.

Encima del altar se puede apreciar el núcleo central circular de concreto armado que funge como elemento estructural de soporte de los cuatro pétalos y desde allí cuelga imponente, como si estuviese en el aire, la imagen de Jesús crucificado.

Desde cualquier banco se tiene buena visión del altar al momento de la misa y la acústica del recinto permite que el sonido se distribuya en forma uniforme en todas direcciones, lo cual permite escuchar de manera clara el mensaje y la música que se transmite desde el altar.

Al salir del templo se observan amplios espacios y áreas verdes que sirven de plaza para el esparcimiento de los fieles y visitantes. Allí se levanta un campanario muy alto que termina en una cruz y está dotado con parlantes para transmitir música o mensajes a la población cercana.

A la entrada del templo se encuentra un enrejado decorado artísticamente con hierro forjado que le dan mucha elegancia y todos sus cerramientos están formados por ventanas de cristal y vitrales decorados y muy coloridos.

La catedral de Barquisimeto es uno de los principales íconos de la ciudad y es lugar obligatorio para las visitas de los turistas que vienen a conocerla.
