Resulta que cuando estaba leyendo la publicación invitando para participar en esta iniciativa, vino a mi mente un ejemplo muy común y cotidiano que suele ocurrir en cualquiera de nuestras casas: Cuando aparece una gotera en el techo no le prestamos mucha atención, simplemente le colocamos un recipiente para que la recoja y listo, así puede pasar mucho tiempo y no pasa nada.

Pero cuando la gota comienza a caer sobre mi cara mientras duermo ya comienza a incomodarme porque no me deja dormir y siento la necesidad de corregir el problema para volver a la normalidad.

Se parece mucho cuando nosotros los hombres (así somos la mayoría) sentimos un leve dolor en alguna parte del cuerpo y , mientras el dolor sea tolerable sigo trabajando y haciendo mis actividades diarias. Solo cuando el dolor se hace insoportable es cuando nos preocupamos y acudimos al médico.

Cuando mi esposa y yo estábamos recién casados alquilamos una pequeña vivienda muy cerca de mi casa materna y ahí viví con mi esposa durante varios años mientras podía adquirir una vivienda propia. Afortunadamente no pasó mucho tiempo cuando me salió una oportunidad de conseguir una vivienda propia y la aproveché de inmediato.

La casa me la entregaron sin los revestimientos en pisos y paredes, lo que conocemos como "obra gris" y me dediqué a reunir el dinero para acondicionarla, no solo con revestimientos y acabados sino que le fabriqué un cuarto para la cocina con gabinetes de madera y la dejamos lista para habitar y a nuestro gusto. También le estaba construyendo una ampliación para hacerla de dos plantas y ya había vaciado la losa de entrepiso.

Nos mudamos y todo era felicidad hasta que una tarde cuando regresábamos del trabajo, encontramos a los vecinos reunidos frente a mi casa y cuando nos bajamos del carro nos informaron que nos habían robado.

Alguien estacionó una cava en frente, violó las cerraduras "de seguridad" de la puerta principal y cargó con todo lo que pudieron, solo dejaron la nevera y la lavadora.

En ese entonces había facilidad para adquirir los electrodomésticos con tarjetas de crédito y créditos a largo plazo que utilizamos para dotar la casa en poco tiempo de lo necesario.

Aseguré las puertas y ventanas, pero la delincuencia de la zona no paró de atentar contra nuestros bienes y siguieron robando y destruyendo nuestra propiedad.

Para colmo de males, la vivienda estaba ubicada cerca de una quebrada y por un costado estaban construyendo un urbanismo y al parecer habían cambiado el cauce de la quebrada en algún punto. Lo cierto es que cuando llovió muy fuerte la quebrada creció y se desvío justamente hacia mi garaje, ocasionando que la casa se me inundara.

El agua llegó aproximadamente a 50 centímetros del piso y se me dañaron algunos equipos.

Entonces viendo todos estos eventos negativos decidimos buscar otra casa donde mudarnos. La situación de la quebrada era pasajera, pero el problema con la delincuencia no era cosa fácil de solucionar.

Fueron días de mucha incomodidad porque siempre que salíamos y dejábamos la casa sola, estábamos preocupados mientras trabajábamos pensando que nuevamente íbamos a encontrar la casa robada. Además, yo estaba trabajando como docente en horas nocturnas y cuando iba a mi casa llamaba a mi esposa para que me esperara con el portin sin candado para no tardar mucho afuera y arriesgarme a un atraco.

Gracias a Dios pudimos conseguir nuestra actual vivienda con un sistema de pago que se adaptaba a mi bolsillo y al mudarnos sentimos como nuestra vida cambiaba en forma positiva. Ya podíamos salir sin temor al robo, incluso hemos dejado la puerta abierta y al regresar conseguimos todo igual.

Pagamos un condominio con vigilancia con gusto a cambio de vivir sin el estrés que causa la inseguridad. Porque de habernos quedado en la otra casa quien sabe como hubiese sido el resultado.

It turns out that when I was reading the publication inviting to participate in this initiative, it came to my mind a very common and everyday example that usually happens in any of our homes: When a leak appears on the roof we do not pay much attention to it, we simply place a container to collect it and that's it, so it can take a long time and nothing happens.

But when the drop begins to fall on my face while I sleep it starts to bother me because it does not let me sleep and I feel the need to correct the problem to return to normal.

It is very similar when we men (so are most of us) feel a slight pain in some part of the body and, as long as the pain is tolerable, I continue working and doing my daily activities. It is only when the pain becomes unbearable that we get worried and go to the doctor.

When my wife and I were newlyweds we rented a small house very close to my mother's house and I lived there with my wife for several years while I was able to purchase a home of my own. Fortunately, it wasn't long before I had an opportunity to own my own home and I jumped at the chance.

The house was given to me without the floor and wall coverings, what we know as “gray work” and I dedicated myself to raise the money to condition it, not only with coverings and finishes but I made a room for the kitchen with wooden cabinets and we left it ready to live in and to our liking. I was also building an extension to make it a two-story house and I had already emptied the mezzanine slab.

We moved in and everything was happy until one afternoon when we were returning from work, we found the neighbors gathered in front of my house and when we got out of the car they informed us that we had been robbed.

Someone parked a cellar in front, violated the “security” locks on the front door and took everything they could, leaving only the refrigerator and the washing machine.

At that time it was easy to acquire the appliances with credit cards and long term credits that we used to equip the house in a short time with what we needed.

I secured the doors and windows, but crime in the area did not stop attacking our property and continued to steal and destroy our property.

To make matters worse, the house was located near a creek and on one side they were building a housing development and apparently they had changed the course of the creek at some point. The truth is that when it rained very hard the creek grew and deviated just towards my garage, causing the house to flood.

The water reached approximately 50 centimeters from the floor and some equipment was damaged.

So seeing all these negative events we decided to look for another house to move to. The situation of the ravine was temporary, but the problem with crime was not an easy thing to solve.

Those were days of great discomfort because whenever we went out and left the house alone, we were worried while we worked thinking that we were going to find the house robbed again. Also, I was working as a teacher at night and when I went home I would call my wife to wait for me with the gate unlocked so I wouldn't be out too long and risk a robbery.

Thank God we were able to get our current house with a payment system that suited my pocket and when we moved in we felt how our life changed in a positive way. We could now go out without fear of robbery, we even left the door open and when we came back we got everything the same.

We gladly paid for a condominium with security in exchange for living without the stress caused by insecurity. Because if we had stayed in the other house who knows what the result would have been like.
