Last Sunday I went out to mass in the morning and returned home at noon, then I was going out with the family in the afternoon to the mall, but when I started the car my wife noticed that it sounded something strange and when I lifted the hood I realized that indeed, there was a noise coming from the place where the timing belt was.

I immediately turned off the car because I had never heard such a noise and if it had to do with the timing belt, the best thing to do was to leave it alone and call the mechanic.

The mechanic came to my house the next day, uncovered the timing belt guard and when I started the engine, the belt blew. Fortunately, the car had a job on the pistons to keep it from bending the valves when the belt fails and that calmed me down a bit.

So he kept uncovering until he got to the water pump and when he turned it he noticed it was stiff and told me he had to replace it because it was locked up and this was what caused the belt to break, in fact when he pulled it out, you could see it was very rusty and worn.

The entire timing kit also needed to be replaced because the pulley was making noise when it spun and the single belt because it was already in bad shape.

I left the mechanic working and went out to tour several stores to get a timing kit of acceptable quality and price. I have had a lot of problems because the salesmen offer you a medium quality Mitsuba brand belt, but the tensioner and pulley are no good. If you buy a good belt and the tensioner and pulley are of poor quality, you run the risk of one of the two getting damaged and breaking the belt again.

I was lucky because I got the kit at a good price and of good quality and the water pump of a not very well known brand but of acceptable quality.

The mechanic took practically all day disassembling, waiting for the parts and reassembling, but fortunately the job went well.

I really thank God because I always have accidents in or near my house and that the valves were not damaged, because if they were, I would have to unclog the engine and buy the valves and whatever was damaged.

El pasado domingo salí a la misa en la mañana y regresé a casa al mediodía, luego iba a salir con la familia en la tarde al centro comercial, pero cuando encendí el carro mi esposa notó que sonaba algo raro y al levantar el capot me percaté que efectivamente, había un ruido que salía del sitio donde estaba la correa del tiempo.

Enseguida apagué el carro porque nunca le había escuchado un ruido semejante y si tenía que ver con la correa del tiempo, lo mejor que podía hacer era dejarlo tranquilo y llamar al mecánico.

El mecánico vino a mi casa al día siguiente, destapó el protector de la correa del tiempo y al encender el motor, la correa reventó. Afortunadamente, el carro tenía un trabajo en los pistones para evitar que doble las válvulas cuando falla la correa y eso me tranquilizó un poco.

Entonces siguió destapando hasta que llegó a la bomba de agua y al girarla notó que estaba rígida y me dijo que debía reemplazarla porque estaba trancada y esto fue lo que causó que la correa se rompiera, de hecho cuando la sacó, se pudo apreciar que estaba muy oxidada y gastada.

También había que cambiar el kit de tiempo completo porque la polea estaba emitiendo ruido al girar y la correa única porque ya estaba en mal estado.

Dejé al mecánico trabajando y salí a recorrer varios negocios para conseguir un kit de tiempo de calidad y precio aceptable. He tenido muchos problemas porque los vendedores te ofrecen una correa marca Mitsuba de mediana calidad, pero el tensor y la polea no sirven. Si se compra una buena correa y el tensor y la polea son de mala calidad, se corre el riesgo de que alguno de los dos se dañen y rompan la correa nuevamente.

Corrí con suerte porque conseguí el kit a buen precio y de buena calidad y la bomba de agua de una marca no muy conocida pero de calidad aceptable.

El mecánico tardó prácticamente todo el día desarmando, esperando los repuestos y volviendo a armar, pero afortunadamente el trabajo quedó bien.

De verdad que le agradezco a Dios porque siempre me accidento en mi casa o cerca de ella y que las válvulas no sufrieron daño, porque si es así tendría que destapar el motor y comprar las válvulas y lo que estuviese dañado.
