Horses and Harridans

As a former librarian who is friends with still practicing librarians, I am often presented with the opportunity to volunteer in community events. Of course, if you know librarians, it's more of a voluntold position, but I like to think I have a choice in the matter.

Well, even though I do less of the work than I used to, a couple of times a year I still participate in library sponsored events acting jobs, because I like to have fun and serve my community at the same time! It's a win/win!

Anyway, yesterday was the 4th Annual Newport Renaissance Festival, and I got to be a thief! Well, a suspected thief, but you know, there was suspicion cast upon me!

Me and a bunch of my other heathen friends and acquaintances!

The royal moonstone was stolen, and the Faire attendees were tasked with tracking down the culprit. The thing was, there was a bunch of suspects and alibis to establish. The way to establish said alibis and figure out the thief was to go through all of the Faire, talk to the vendors, and question the suspects, of which I was one, Madame Lynx.

So, it was my assignment to saunter about the fair in my very snug Renaissance frock and spout off my lines to anyone who inquired.

Okay, the Fox and I may have cast aspersion upon some of the others in the suspect pool. I mean, when in Rome, er, the Ren Faire.

You see, there were quite a few of us suspects, The Fox, The Bear (my poor hubs), The Raven, The Wolf, The Falcon, and The Cat. The Cat was super sus, he slunk around most suspiciously and haughtily.

And don't get me started on the Falcon.

For seven hours in the delightfully toasty heat all of us suspects meandered, enjoyed the Faire finery, interacted with the attendees, and some of the fairer of us burned more than a bit in the sun's unrelenting rays.

It was a day.

A day of battle demonstrations, magic shows, minstrel tunes, maypole twirling, and war horse demonstrations. My dear friend librarian friend who not only organized the whole thing but was also the event Herald really outdid herself.

And finally, at the end of the event, when the theft of the moonstone was announced, it was indeed The Cat, who was promptly clamped in the stocks and punished by being a selfie taking prompt station. The horror!

It was a rather glorious day, although I must admit I am most happy to be in comfy clothes and chilling on the homestead today, a Lynx must have her beauty rest after all...

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's most informative of the author's step count yesterday among other helpful things, iPhone.

Good fun! The stocks reminds me of a market I used to sell at where a guy had himself in the stocks and people paid to throw overripe tomatoes at him!

Sounds like you had a grand time, and the weather sure was perfect for the event! (Unlike today...)

It was a ton of fun, and yes, the weather was most pleasant, although some of the fairer attendees were a bit burned by the end of the day.

Speaking of days, Happy Belated Mother's Day!!!

I've never been to a Ren Faire but when you've spoken of them in the past, they seem like they are such fun! Very cool to have the story playing out all day.

I bet you have got yourself some Ren Faires in your area, they are super fun to go to!

And it was great fun to interact with the attendees as they tried to solve the mystery. Can't wait to do it again!
