I absolutely loved reading this story. Your descriptions of the four winds show how your people have marked their lives by the wind directions for generations - it's part of lore. You might not be crooked, but your cultural landscape is bent by the wind. I loved the idiom about spiders too. That's a terrible thought haha! It was lovely reading about the poplar - it's always so sad when they blow down or die, but man has a tendency to believe things are permanent.
