Merry Christmas: The Best Christmas Gift Wasn't Under the Tree

Christmas Eve last night felt a bit surreal.

It was the first time ever that my dad wasn't at the table with us. Before heading to my mom’s for the party, my eldest son and I stopped by the hospital to see him first. It was such a relief to see him actually sitting at the table and eating. Honestly, he looked like a completely different man compared to the day before.

Later that evening, he received the best Christmas present possible—not just from me, but from the doctors. Around 8:30 PM, they came in with huge news: they’ve finally identified the specific virus causing his inflammation. This means starting new medication and, hopefully, a much faster road to recovery! 🏥✨

Despite the worry, we tried our best to keep traditions alive at Mom’s house, which actually worked out pretty well. I was even spoiled with some fantastic gifts, including a watch winder and automatic salt & pepper mills.

Fast forward to this morning

I was up early, but apparently not early enough! The bakery was nearly sold out, and finding spreads for our Christmas breakfast in the shops was nearly impossible. But I managed to score some, but not the ones on the list :(

Now, it’s time for a cozy breakfast with my wife and kids. After that, the four of us are heading back to the hospital to visit Dad together. Then, it’s on to "Part 2" of the festivities at my in-laws. Just like with my own parents, I have absolutely no clue what I put on my Christmas list for them, so tonight is going to be another total surprise! 🎁

Wishing you all good health and a wonderful Christmas Day! 🎄
Peter

You really got the best Christmas gift possible this year about your dad's situation. I'm really happy as situations like this are rare. Enjoy it.

Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 🎁

I'm surprised that bakeries are open today. In my country everything is closed today.

Thanks.
Most privately owned bakeries are open all year. Everyday. Some even from 7 am till 5 pm on Sundays and holidays.
Probably around 60 to 70 of the supermarkets are open. Some until noon, other until 7 pm.

Different country, different mentality and legislation.

Anyway, all the best to your dad. I hope he gets well as soon as possible.

A white Christmas would be a blast. The last one was more than 15 years ago. Here it is or cold or raining, rarely the 2 at the same time :(
Best wishes.

I have a full day of raining too. Atleast everyone are still happy and healthy, can't ask more.
