Das Boot (El submarino) [ENG-ESP]

Recently, I watched a TV miniseries called “Das Boot”, which in English is known as The Submarine. This is a German series that began its transmission in 2018, was directed by Andreas Prochaska and also that it was made up of four seasons. The first two seasons had eight episodes, while the third and last one I watched had ten episodes. Season four I haven't had the chance to watch it, due to the fact that I didn't get it. So this review will be based only on the first three seasons of this production.

Recientemente, me vi una miniserie de TV llamada "Das Boot", que en español se conoce como El Submarino. Esta es una serie alemana que comenzó su transmisión en el año 2018, fue dirigida por Andreas Prochaska y además que estuvo conformada por cuatro temporadas. Las dos primeras temporadas tuvieron ocho episodios, mientras que la tercera y última que vi tenía diez capítulos. La temporada cuatro no he tenido la oportunidad de verla, debido a que no la he conseguido. Así que reseña estará basada solo en las tres primeras temporadas de esta producción.

The series tells us about Captain Klaus Hoffmann and a Nazi Germany submarine in World War II, which were in charge of maintaining control in the Atlantic Ocean, destroying Allied ships. The first season is based in France controlled by the Germans, where they had a base where the submarines were built and sailed. The second season also remains in occupied France, while the third season if other places are seen, as in Portugal. A series that tells us about the submarines, their captains and the men who worked on these vessels, who risked their lives for their country, regardless of whether what they were doing was the right thing or not.

La serie nos habla del capitán Klaus Hoffmann y un submarino de la Alemania nazi en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, que eran los encargados de mantener el control en el océano Atlántico, destruyendo las embarcaciones de los aliados. La primera temporada se basa en la Francia controlada por los alemanes, donde tenían una base de donde eran construidos y salían a navegar los submarinos. La segunda temporada también se mantiene en la Francia ocupada, mientras que la tercera temporada si se ven otros sitios, como en Portugal. Una serie que nos habla sobre los submarinos, sus capitanes y los hombres que laboraban en estas embarcaciones, que arriesgaban su vida por su país, más allá que lo que estuvieran haciendo fuese lo correcto o no.

What I like most about the series of its history is that it gives us the other side of the coin, the role played by the submarines in World War II, what was the siege of the Jews in France and also the French resistance. A series that shows us the clear reality of what were the staunch Nazis, the indoctrination of the young crew members of the ships and the different jobs they had, also the fear of failing in the mission, because many cared more about fulfilling their role, even giving their own lives. Also remember that there is a movie and a miniseries of this story, I really do not know if it is so faithful to what we see in Das Boot, but from what I have read, it does have things quite similar or that give enough allusion to what we see in the original productions.

Lo que más me gusta de la serie de su historia es que nos da la cara de la otra moneda, el papel que jugaron los submarinos en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, lo que fue el asedio a los judíos en Francia y también la resistencia francesa. Una serie que nos muestra la clara realidad de lo que eran los nazis acérrimos, el adoctrinamiento de los jóvenes tripulantes de las embarcaciones y los diferentes trabajos que tenían, también el temor que fracasar en la misión, porque muchos les importaba cumplir más con su papel, así sea dando su propia vida. También recordar que de esta historia hay una película y una miniserie, realmente no sé si es tan fiel a lo que vemos en Das Boot, pero por lo leído si tiene cosas bastante similares o que dan bastante alusión a lo que vemos en las producciones originales.

Not only is the story based on the U-612 submarine commanded by Captain Klaus Hoffman, but we see it from the perspective of several crew members and in occupied France. The siege of the Jews and the rebels as mentioned above. A series that is not directed to a single story, at times are at sea (submarine) and others on land, I must say that I liked more when the story unfolded in the Submarine, but it's all a matter of taste. A very interesting plot, with a good development in the characters, but we should never get attached to any of them, as it reminds me of Games of Thrones, since we lose characters from one moment to another, a series that comes to surprise us.

No solo la historia está basada en el submarino U-612 dirigido por El Capitan Klaus Hoffman, sino que lo vemos desde la perspectiva de varios tripulantes y en la Francia ocupada. El asedio a los judíos y a los rebeldes como se les comente anteriormente. Una serie que no está dirigida a una sola historia, en momentos están en el mar (submarino) y otros en la tierra, debo decir que más me gustaba cuando se desarrollaba la historia en el Submarino, pero todo es cuestión de gustos. Una trama bastante interesante, con un buen desarrollo en los personajes, pero nunca nos debemos encariñar con ninguno, ya que me hace recordar a Juegos de Tronos, puesto que perdemos a personajes de un momento a otro, una serie que nos llega a sorprender.

Andreas Prochaska did a great job in the direction, being one of the best of the series, giving the touch of thriller to the production, since we will always be in expectation of what can happen. A very well told story, it is not the best I've seen in terms of series, but its story very entertaining and more if you like these war themes of dramas based on the second great war. The script was very well executed, although at the beginning of the series and in the first episodes the dialogues were not the best, but this was improving as the episodes and seasons went by. My favorite season was the first one.

Andreas Prochaska hizo un gran trabajo en la dirección, siendo de lo mejor de serie, dando el toque de thriller a la producción, ya que siempre vamos a estar a la expectativa de lo que puede suceder. Una historia muy bien contada, no es de lo mejor que he visto en cuento a serie, pero su historia muy entretenida y más si les gustan estos temas bélicos de dramas basados en la segunda gran guerra. El guion estuvo muy bien ejecutado, aunque al principio de la serie y en los primeros episodios los diálogos no eran los mejores, pero esto fue mejorando al pasar los episodios y temporadas. Mi temporada favorita fue la primera.

As for the cast, I must say that I thought it was very good, where I must highlight Rick Okon who played Captain Klaus Hoffmann, who was my favorite of the whole story, where the third season leaves almost at the end and really made a great lack of this character in the story. In general the cast did a great job, there were characters very well brought to the screen and that is where we highlight not only the work of the actors and actresses, but also the director. Regarding the photography, it is another aspect that stands out in the series El Submarino, a very well set story, both in the submarine and on land (France), the costumes very appropriate to the time. A great job, where the production had to document themselves to do the superlative job they did.

En cuanto el cast, debo decir que me pareció muy bueno, donde debo destacar a Rick Okon quien hizo del capitán Klaus Hoffmann, quien fue mi favorito de toda la historia, donde la tercera temporada sale casi al final y realmente cometió una gran falta este personaje en la historia. En general el reparto hizo un gran trabajo, hubo personajes muy bien llevados a la pantalla y allí es donde destacamos no solo la labor de los actores y actrices, sino también del director. En lo que respecta a la fotografía, es otro de los aspectos que más destacan de la serie El Submarino, una historia muy bien ambientada, tanto en el submarino como en tierra (Francia), el vestuario muy adecuado a la época. Un gran trabajo, donde la producción tuvo que documentarse para hacer el trabajo tan superlativo que hicieron.

One point I must highlight in Das Boot are the visual effects, all very well worked. The soundtrack is not far behind, it really gives a touch of suspense to epic scenes that stand out in the story. **In conclusion, this series was really a success, it was not at all at the level of Blood Brothers, The Pacific, The Masters of the Air and Chernobyl, which were series that broke it, but what I am talking about today was well executed, with some details, but nothing that ruined the experience. I'm talking about the first three seasons, I haven't seen the last one. I give a 9/10 to Das Boot, series of 2018.

Un punto que debo destacar de Das Boot son los efectos visuales, todo muy bien trabajado. La banda sonora no se queda atrás, realmente le da el toque de suspenso a escenas épicas y que destacan dentro de la historia. En conclusión, esta serie fue realmente un acierto, para nada estuvo al nivel de Hermanos de Sangre, The Pacific, Los amos del aire y Chernobyl, que fueron series que la rompieron, pero esto que les estoy hablando hoy si estuvo bien ejecutada, con algunos detalles, pero nada que arruinara la experiencia. Esto lo hablo respecto a las tres primeras temporadas, la última no la he visto. Le doy un 9/10 a Das Boot, serie de 2018.
