La misma se llama Brave the Dark, que en español se conoce como Enfrentando la Oscuridad. Investigando un poco vi que el filme se entrenó en 2023 en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Heartland, mientras que en enero de este año se estrenó en los Estados Unidos. La producción fue dirigida por Damian Harris. El guion estuvo a cargo de Dale G. Bradley, Nathaniel Deen, Damian Harris, Lynn Robertson Hay y John P. Spencer.

Friends of the Movies & TV Shows community, I hope everyone is well. Today I'm going to talk about a movie I saw a few days ago and it really surprised me. It is called Brave the Dark, which in Spanish is known as Enfrentando la Oscuridad. Doing some research I saw that the film was trained in 2023 at the Heartland International Film Festival, while in January of this year it was released in the United States. The production was directed by Damian Harris. The screenplay was written by Dale G. Bradley, Nathaniel Deen, Damian Harris, Lynn Robertson Hay and John P. Spencer.

La historia es basada en hechos reales y debo decir que hasta el final no sabía que esta trama era una adaptación de una historia que había ocurrido. Esta es una de las razones principales por la cual me sorprendió el filme. En general creo que la trama está bastante bien, en lo personal me convenció. Debo decir que no es perfecta, creo que le falta más profundidad en lo que se está contando, pero pienso que está bastante bien. Un drama que cumple, con misterio y que al final nos deja un mensaje.

The story is based on true events and I must say that until the end I did not know that this plot was an adaptation of a story that had happened. This is one of the main reasons why I was surprised by the film. In general I think the plot is pretty good, personally I was convinced. I must say that it is not perfect, I think it lacks more depth in what is being told, but I think it is pretty good. A drama that fulfills, with mystery and at the end it leaves us with a message.

¿De qué trata la historia? “Un adolescente sin hogar lucha por encontrar el valor para enfrentarse a la oscuridad de su pasado”. Nate es un joven como problemas de conductas, alguien que perdió a su madre y su padre cuando era pequeño. Al inicio no se mencionaba como quedó huérfano, pero al ver el filme nos damos que en todo hay algo oculto. El chico sé que es bueno, pero va por mal camino, vive solo desde que era pequeño, algo que me pareció conmovedor. Si puede que hayamos visto películas parecidas, pero esta historia sí que fue bien contada, como dije, no perfecta, pero al menos cumplió con lo que se quería transmitir. Otros de los personajes principales del filme es Stan Deen, un profesor de Nate, quien, conmovido con situación, hace todo lo posible por ayudarlo.

What is the story about? “A homeless teenager struggles to find the courage to face the darkness of his past.” Nate is a young man with behavioral problems, someone who lost his mother and father when he was young. At the beginning there was no mention of how he became an orphan, but as we watch the film we realize that there is something hidden in everything. The boy I know is good, but he's on the wrong track, living alone since he was little, something I found touching. Yes, we may have seen similar films, but this story was well told, as I said, not perfect, but at least it fulfilled what it wanted to convey. Another of the main characters in the film is Stan Deen, Nate's teacher, who, moved by the situation, does everything he can to help him.

Stan is a very dedicated teacher, who cares about what really happens to his students and even more so when he knows that these young men and women can become good men and women. This teacher was touched by Nate's situation, seeing that he is lonely, he helped him no matter what he was hiding, because he simply knew that he was a good young man. That is where we realize that we should never judge people, because behind everything there is a reason. The purpose of the film is to let us know that as people we must understand that we will never know everything about people, we do not know the path that each person travels and what Nate went through when he was just a child is not easy and what impressed me most with the end is to know that this happened in real life.

Stan es un profesor bastante dedicado, que le importa lo que realmente sucede con sus estudiantes y más cuando sabe que estos jóvenes pueden llegar a ser hombres y mujeres de bien. Este profesor quedó conmovido con la situación de Nate, viéndole que es solitario, lo ayudaba sin importar lo que estaba ocultando, pues simplemente sabía que era en el fondo un buen joven. Allí es donde nos damos cuentas que nunca debemos juzgar a las personas, pues detrás de todo hay un porqué. La finalidad del filme es darnos a conocer que como personas debemos entender que nunca vamos a saber el todo de las personas, no conocemos el camino que recorre cada quien y es que lo que pasó Nate cuando era apenas un niño no es fácil y lo que más me impresionó con el final es saber que estos paso en la vida real.

A story that leaves us much to think about, a shocking film, where the past of a child affected what he was in the future, but also taught us that it is never too late, but take the path of good, but that is where the importance of having present a person who believes in one and this was the case of Professor Stan Deen. For more people like this character, how good the world would be with more people like him. Anyway, I can tell you that I thought the story was pretty good, a little slow, but it didn't ruin my experience. I stayed more with what it wanted to tell. Something that wants to highlight is the script, very concise and no nonsense as we can find in other productions, that is to say that it gives us a clear and solid message, without giving many detours.

Una historia que nos deja mucho en que pensar, una película impactante, donde el pasado de un niño afecto lo que este fue en el futuro, pero también nos enseñó que nunca es tarde, pero tomar el camino del bien, pero allí es donde rádica la importancia de tener presente a una persona que crea en uno y este fue el caso del profesor Stan Deen. Por más personas como este personaje, que bueno sería el mundo con más personas como él. En fin les puedo decir que la historia me pareció bastante buena, un poco lenta, pero anda que arruinara mi experiencia. Me quedo más con lo que se quería contar. Algo que quiere resaltar es el guion, muy conciso y nada de cosas sin sentido como podemos encontrar en otras producciones, es decir que nos da un mensaje claro y sólido, sin dar muchos rodeos.

As for the cast, I must say that in general I thought they all gave very good performances, but the reality is that both Jared Harris as Stan Deen and Nicholas Hamilton as Nate, eclipsed the other members, personally I think they both did a great job with their characters, believing us what we were seeing. Jared Harris gave life to Stan, a kind-hearted teacher, who everyone knows, with a great sense of humor, but the most important thing for him is to help others and the actor managed to capture that on screen. On the other hand, Nicholas Hamilton did the same with Nate, a young man with a sense of humor, but the reality is that he had many problems and the past tormented him, making it difficult to trust others.

En cuanto al reparto, debo decir que en general todos me parecieron con actuaciones bastante acertadas, pero la realidad es que tanto Jared Harris como Stan Deen y Nicholas Hamilton como Nate, eclipsaron a los demás integrantes, en lo personal pienso que ambos hicieron un trabajo magnífico con sus personajes, creyéndonos lo que estábamos viendo. Jared Harris le dio vida a Stan, un profesor de buen corazón, que todo el mundo conoce, de gran sentido del humor, pero lo más importante para él es ayudar a los demás y el actor logró plasmar eso en pantalla. Por otro lado, Nicholas Hamilton hizo lo mismo con Nate, un joven con sentido del humor, pero la realidad es que tenía muchos problemas y el pasado lo atormentaba, por lo cual era difícil confiar en los demás.

The work of Damian Harris in the direction seemed to me very good, in a film with a small budget, barely 200 thousand dollars and that grossed more than 4 million, being a great success. I loved many scenes, with quite nice shots, but as I said, the film also has a dark touch like a horror movie, although it is not the genre, but we do know how one of the protagonists of the story went through a great horror in his life that marked him. I don't want to mention anything so as not to make spoilers. The photography is, in general, a strong point of the film, while the soundtrack is perhaps not the most important thing, as it was more about giving emphasis to the story.

El trabajo de Damián Harris en la dirección me pareció muy buena, en una película con poco presupuesto, de apenas 200 mil dólares y que recaudó más de 4 millones, siendo un gran éxito. Me encantaron muchas escenas, con planos bastante agradables, pero como les dije, también la película tiene un toque oscuro como una película de terror, aunque no es el género, pero si sabemos como uno de los protagonistas de la historia pasó un gran horror en su vida que lo marcó. No quiero mencionar nada para no hacerles spoiler. La fotografía es, general, un punto fuerte del filme, mientras que la banda sonora tal vez considero que no es lo de mayor transcendencia, pues se trataba más de darle énfasis a la historia.

Brave the Dark is a good movie, a story that is not perfect, I would have liked more depth, but overall what it is about was what captivated me the most. A story where one person seeks to help another regardless of his past, he does it genuinely without anything in return. A very inspired story with great messages that we can take away from the plot. The performances of the main characters very outstanding, a very good direction, a photography at the height of what I expected, a soundtrack that fulfilled, but what really mattered was what was being told. I recommend this movie 100%, watching it is a story of self-improvement, where we realize that there are still good people in the world.

Brave the Dark es una buena película, una historia que no es perfecta, me hubiese gustado una mayor profundidad, pero en general de lo que trata fue lo que más me cautivo. Una historia donde una persona busca ayudar a otro sin importar su pasado, lo hace genuinamente sin nada a cambio. Una historia muy inspirada y con grandes mensajes que podemos sacar de la trama. Las actuaciones de los personajes principales muy sobresalientes, una dirección muy buena, una fotografía a la altura de lo que me esperaba, una banda sonora que cumplía, pero lo que realmente importaba era lo que se estaba contando. Esta película la recomiendo al 100%, verla es una historia de superación personal, donde nos damos cuenta de que todavía hay buenas personas en el mundo.
