May evil not befall us 🙏

It was just this last Sunday evening when the rain started on a good note and later turned heavy and did not stop until we slept. Throughout the night, it was raining heavily, and my thoughts were on areas in Lagos state, Nigeria that could be affected by a rain like this, not knowing it was already happening. This rain continued till the evening, making it 24hours of nonstop rain. It is well!

I tuned to Facebook to see what I was thinking about, so many places like Ikorodu, Ajegunle, Bariga, Oworoshoki, Isheri, Lekki were flooded to the point of not seeing the ground, the water reached half of the house, properties were floating, people were shouting for help, calling on the government to come to their rescue. The one that made me shed tears was two siblings who left after the rain had reduced to where they were going, and unfortunate flooding flooded them away because there was a drainage in that area, but it has been covered with water. This is so sad 😢

Lagos, Nigeria, was thrown into chaos this past week as heavy rainfall led to severe flooding, displacing residents, damaging property, and paralyzing daily life. The downpour, which lasted several hours, overwhelmed drainage systems and turned major roads into rivers. Homes, vehicles, and businesses were submerged under rising water, leaving many residents stranded and distressed. Viral videos on social media showed people wading through waist-deep floodwaters, desperately trying to salvage belongings while navigating submerged streets.

For many in Lekki, Ikorodu, the flood was more than just an inconvenience, it was a frightening reminder of the city's fragile infrastructure and environmental vulnerabilities. "We were trapped inside all day. The water came in through the front door and started rising fast, said my friend. Get a land during the rainy season to be sure of what you will face afterwards🤔 My friend has a fish pond, and all the fish were flooded away, it was a total loss for him, and I pray God restore him in multiple folds🙏 It wasn't a good experience!

In Bariga, come and see the way the houses were half-soaked? People were stranded, and properties were flooded. Experts blame the recurring floods on a combination of poor urban planning, blocked drainage channels, and the ongoing rapid development in the area, which has reduced the natural water absorption capacity of the land, especially during the rainy season. People who went out on Sunday morning couldn't return to their houses because there was too much flood even for a vehicle to make it. It was so disheartening to see people shouting for help when there was no help🤔

Even though, Lagos state authorities have urged residents to remain calm while pledging to improve drainage infrastructure and enforce environmental regulations. However, for many affected families, the promise offers little immediate relief because the sky is still cloudy for more rain, and you know the government's decision can be quick, but the implementation cannot be as fast as possible. We pray to God to help us put an end to this cause and comfort the affected families 🙏🙏🙏

If you are not the one wearing the shoes, you cannot know where it pinches 👌

One thing that comes with natural disasters is damages and destruction of properties, you can have a lot of properties before it happened and after it happens you will be left with nothing.

This is bad. Kai...I pray this doesn't happen to anyone. I remembered last year we had several cases of flood in my state that affected so many lives.

Thanks for sharing

This is heartbreaking . The devastation caused by the flood is unimaginable. It's a strong reminder of the urgent need for better infrastructure and preparedness.

If they will attend to the crucial needs of the citizens now before another year's rainfall but they won't. Fake promises every day

If we depend on the government's fake promises, we are on our own.
We need to be conscious and stay on alert and also pray never to witness a disaster
