Just for Public Attention
What we have not seen online these days is yet to happen. What I don't understand is why must everything be done online. There was a time when one of our singers and one of his concubines had issues; nobody knew about this until the lady came online crying for forgiveness; oh my God, I was so pissed, and I had to take the video out of my sight. Why didn't she go offline to beg for forgiveness rather than coming online? So disgusting!
Making apology videos these days isn't much of a big deal for people. After involving in a scandal or an unacceptable act, people tend to show their guilt and ask for forgiveness by making an apology video. Although taking responsibility for one's actions is so important, that shouldn't be the first thing to be done after making a mistake. Realizing one's mistake and knowing better than to repeat the same thing should be the first, then one can proceed to ask for forgiveness.
People tend to say a lot of sweet words in an apology video to make the viewer consider forgiveness. Promises are made just for forgiveness and that's not good enough. If promises are to be made, the intention to fulfill them should also stand and work towards them. If promises are kept and positive changes are noticed, then the apology video is genuine, but if otherwise, it's just to show off, trying to seek public attention.
Asking for forgiveness after doing something scandalous can also be achieved by trying so hard to make things right. That shows that one is truly sorry and I believe forgiveness should be automatically given. A cheating wife caught in the act came online to beg for forgiveness🤔 It seems so easy for them after acting irrationally.
Hypothetically, I got into a fight with someone, and the person got wounded. I start by knowing that what I've done is bad, I shouldn't have gotten into a fight in the first place. Then, I proceeded to try my best to get the injured person treated and also reconcile with the person. Then, I'll make sure not to get into a fight anymore; I'll try as much as possible to avoid unnecessary arguments that would lead to a fight. I might be a person who has an anger issue, but the fact that I avoid getting into a situation that would trigger my anger shows how eager I am to be forgiven. These acts show that I'm truly sorry, and forgiveness would be appreciated. I don't need to come online to apologize; there are better ways one can do that, and it won't be public.
What are other better ways?
- Direct Apology: This means apologizing directly to the affected individual through phone, e-mail, SMS, or physical meeting
- Private Apology: This can be in the form of a written letter expressing how deeply sorry you are and can be more appreciated than coming online to gain public attention.
- Third-party Apology: Inviting a trusted person to interfere can be more heartfelt and personal.
In conclusion, making apology videos should be considered only if one's truly sorry and willing to turn a new leaf.
This is my response to the #hivelearners weekly prompt on the topic: APOLOGY VIDEOS.

There are other better ways to apologize than to leverage on just videos. Thanks for sharing
Speak it louder, my brother
You're right, apology video should be made when we've realise our mistakes and made up our minds not to repeat it again. Nice write-up
Thanks for agreeing with me; apology videos should be made when the mistake is realized, not the other way around.
Thanks, Oluwatosin
Nowadays, it's so complicated to know who is really telling the truth and who isn't. Sincerity, especially in this social media environment, is extremely rare. People live in make-up!
