Chestnut weekend.

This weekend is going to be special because it coincides with "La Castañada" (the chestnut festival), and the children want to actively participate. I hope they do and help me because I have a lot of work to do. I have the most important thing: the chestnuts, since I have a chestnut tree in the garden because their price is becoming prohibitive. I also have the sweet potatoes that I've grown in the vegetable garden this year. I call that local produce.

So I almost have everything ready; now I just have to get to work. My children will help me make the "panallets" (small almond cakes), and I hope they don't eat them before they even get to the table this time. Since it looks like it's going to be a bit chilly, my son will prepare a small bonfire to roast the chestnuts, and that way I won't have so many guests at home. I can send the noisiest ones out to the garden to get cold, and they can roast the chestnuts while they're at it. It's a festival that I love much more than Christmas, but it also means a lot of work.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Glad you have a chestnut tree in your garden, all nut prices are really going up lately. It should be a nice weekend from the sounds of it! Enjoy those almond cakes and sweet potatoes, as well as the chestnuts fresh roasted in your backyard!
