Weather, Back To School, Harvests, Attempted Shortcut, Screwup, Barn Spiders, My Mechanical Hell - Wednesday
Weird weather recently, I guess it is actually a bit more on the normal side unlike the last decade of weather modifications. Summer storms used to be a NORM for the region.
It only ever spit randomly during the day and never actually rained.
Boys went to their first day of school which @stryeyz dropped them off for. I'll be dropping them off most every other morning...
The clouds had kept a lot of heat by the ground so the morning was already a bit warm.
I'm happy seeing the reduced squash harvests as we have had enough come out of the rows. While NO WHERE NEAR what I have grown before this is still a lot for us now that it is not being sold. Nearly 200 pounds harvested this year so far.
Well over 300 cucumbers ave come out of the greenhouse so far with plenty more to go.
Mid morning I was back out on the truck and I thought I had a cheeky way of working the timing so I dove in and tried.
Cams coming out.
And then fully removed from both sides. I then worked the number 1 chain around until I got the timing marks lined up right. It was a fiddly process that I was actually making work.
Man Utd played and what a shit show. I didn't even watch, I just walked in to see them down 2-0 and turned it off. They managed to come back but then lost on penalty shots... TO GRIMSBY!!!!! LOL HAH HAH HAH!!!!
Okay, so FSM printed and following the steps to set the chains.
So much fiddling and dinking around I THOUGHT I had hit every step correctly...
And then I realized my fuck up. During the process I had turned the crank again but forgot to line up the timing mark on the zero line.
So I did a mad stomp around the yard grumbling and occasionally yelling out FUCK!
The whole point was to try and set the timing WITHOUT having to remove the timing cover, YET AGAIN! But no such luck for this glutton.
The rains attempted to move through in the afternoon but again nothing fell despite the doppler saying otherwise.
I was done for the day so got a roam in to check on things.
The young birds are nice and easy to herd and I wanted them out from under the brooder before it got dark.
Then before the door shut I got them all to go in the coop so hopefully they do this from now on on their own.
One of the young ones had squeezed through the fence and as I walked around the coop to chase it in I almost ran face first into a pair or barn spider webs with them smack in the middle.
Then had to step around this one that was just nearby. I love my barn spiders.
Much needed shower then the soak. My poor shoulder muscles are still torched.
It did rain a bit overnight but very minimal it looks like. Today get the boys to school, then go get labs done, then farm work and truck work.

I like regular spiders as well, my friend but……
A couple years ago I got bit!😳
Not exactly sure what kind of spiders we have up here in Northwest, they say we do not have recluse, but it was infected and the size of a silver dollar with a red ring growing in size for three months before it finally healed very wicked!😬
We have seldom Black Widows and the occasional recluse but otherwise nothing poisonous or venomous that I know of. Rattle snakes are to the west in the basin more than near us.
It was a pretty wicked spider bite on my thigh, kind of scared me as the red infectionring kept expanding!🙄
I still have the scar, and like I said, it took three months to heal!
That's wild and sounds like a recluse or widow bite to me but there are some others around the country that are nasty as well. Anymore you could probably copy paste that into grok et al and get a reasonable answer
I believe someone told me it was probably a Hobo spider!😮
With as many times that I crawl under our crawlspace, or stack, firewood, or unstacked firewood in the dark, it always makes me think twice!😳
Hobo spiders I think can cause a nasty bite here?
It was a bad bite…. Then I started researching online, kind of scary the permanent damage to skin they can do!🙄
Oh yes, can get necrotizing fasciitis, really bad stuff.
I try to check the wood pile with a flashlight in the winter time before grabbing wood in the dark now……🙄
I just type this into GROK “AI”……..
the Mrs tells me I was very lucky, bad stuff!🙄
