The Shower Bars Install, So Much Driving, The Right Tool For The Job, First Garlic Harvested - Wednesday
I had a job 45 minutes north yesterday morning which should have been pretty easy. I stopped to get gas at the Casino station south of Chewelah where it was cheapest. In the background is Inkler's which looked perfect for flying...
I got to the house and was shown the shower where the bars were to be installed.
94 years old, she had fallen when getting out of it a few months back and broke all her ribs. Her son had tried to drill the holes for the shower bars but gave up and contacted me. I found out exactly WHY he had such a hard time with it. The house was built in the 80s and the tile used was SUPER HARD! I had my diamond hole saws with and they got eaten really fast. I realized that I had to drive home for my hammer drill and masonry bits.
So 45 minutes drive back home to get the proper tools.
I was able to make myself a sandwich, grabbed the tools, then headed BACK up north.
I have four 1/8" masonry bits and thankfully I do as I had to swap between them for the holes.
See, the problem was that most all NEW tile is much softer and far more brittle than these old tiles. Most of the time masonry bits and hammer drills are not needed or can't be used on newer tile, but this old tile required it.
Ear plugs were my savior as it was like being inside a drum in the tiled shower with the hammer drill. Soon I had the first bar installed.
The second bar went in a good bit faster and required inserts in each hole as there was no stud behind.
They were very pleased with them and very thankful for my work. I hope to get a good bit more work from them in the future as her son is not capable of many of the home repairs, and she has a couple other houses on the river due north of my farm.
Back home mid afternoon I was able to go out to the garden and harvest 4 rows of garlic. All smaller as they did not get oodles of water this spring. There were a few tiny red volunteer potatoes that I dug as well.
Today I have work for another client to fix drywall after the a/c was installed, then some sprinkler adjustments on the systems I installed for them. I will also stop at North 40 for more work shorts as they are on a 25% off sale starting today.
I have an irrigation job on Saturday I need to pickup parts for as well and should really do that today so I have tomorrow off and can go on a bike ride finally.
