Storms, Rain, Harvests, Searching For Machine Shop, Gorgeous Gopher Snake - Thursday

Up stupid early again yesterday morning I looked out the window to the north and saw the red glow of dawn, which I took to mean there would be more storms over the day.

The thunderstorm had dumped a nice bit of rain before moving off to the north, which we need pretty badly in the region.

Out in the garden before the 100F heat set in for the day I got the squash and cucumbers picked.

Then back on the potatoes I finished off the one row and then went to the next.

Almost 21 pounds in the basket went to the porch to get washed then laid out to dry.

I was headed out to get the mail and noticed these pair had popped along the driveway in an old rotted stump.

Most of my day was spent scouring around online for any local machine shops that can turn the crank for my truck. I found one on the north side the has a 4 week lead time... @stryeyz managed to get a couple references to other places from some of the gear heads at her work. I have a place in Idaho to call this morning.

I was in the house as @stryeyz was getting home from work and she called me to tell me there was a snake in the driveway. I ran out quick to find this monster of a gopher snake.

Super pretty and fat and healthy looking.

They are rather docile snakes and it was quite heavy.

I held it for a bit for the pics and so the boys could see it then I took it to the potato garden and let it go inside. It looked like it was going from studio A towards the coop. Big thing is I hope it doesn't go after chicks...

I was talking to Art as they were sitting with their boat on the river and I was giving him updates on the huge thunderstorms that were building up all around them. They eventually had to head for home due to a wild fire that had popped up about 5 miles from their place. It was put out by the storms though.

I'm getting to the point I'm not even going to go soak I get so little time each attempt. Then slept like garbage over night thanks to the hips and shoulder.

Going to call on the crank this morning, I may just buy a new one if turning costs too much as I found a set of rods, bearings, and crank for $400. Will be in the garden picking and digging, rain might fall this morning sometime, and I'm trying to bash these knots out of my shoulder which is going very slowly and painfully.

A new crank with rods and bearings for $400 that sounds like a good price, my friend!😊
I wonder what they will charge us to turn the crank?

Huuuuh.... I'm so scared as if I was asked to hold it up... How come you caught it totally like that and it never bite you, I don't like snakes. You have really shown serious strength 💪💪💪😜

I grew up around snakes so know how to handle them. These are not venomous and as long as they are handled gently they don't become aggressive or scared. Slow steady movements keep them chill.
