Starter Repair, Tree Cutting, Snake Eggs, Trail and Stairs Construction, Hot, Sore - Monday

Had a misfire on leaving yesterday morning when the car refused to start. Full stop, plain refused to even engage the starter. The boys and I had the car loaded and were ready to head to the job.... and nothing. So out they climbed and under the car I went to remove the starter. Popped the back of the solenoid off and I found the ring on the plunger was totally borked. Out came the Dremel and I ground down the ring and the battery side contact to remove the pitting. Reassembled and got it back in the car and now it starts perfectly. It was about a 45 minute job to fix and then by 9am we were on the road to town to go to Home Depot for supplies. Two 4x4x8, 1/2"x12" rebar, and some concrete stakes.

Got to my client's house by 9:30 and the boys helped lug the tools and supplies down the stairs to the trail start.

They piled the stuff by the tree which was a big help for me.

Got J working on cutting away the dirt from the stump so I could cut it down lower while I weedeat the hillside by the cart path.

Then I went and cut down some more trees in the stand which the boys then stacked and piled the branches from. I piled the bigger sections to haul up the wall later.

My vision for the stairs morphed as I was hacking into the hillside and instead of just stairs became a sloped trail leading to stairs.

As I dig into the hill I suddenly found a pile of white eggs. SNAKE EGGS! I think these ones are "live" eggs but I had bent a number of the shells. Managed to keep a pair which I brought home with me. Also dug out an old clutch that were dry inside. Likely a gopher snake judging by the size and our region.

By 1:30 I had much of the trail cut in and stairs built. I cut the 4x4s into 2ft sections and attached them in an L shape. Drilled holes in each board and pounded the rebar through to hold them securely in place. Weed fabric attached to help keep the dirt/sand in place. The trail works really nicely since it parallels the rock wall and gives hand holds for a couple of the steps, is wide, and much more level than the old.

The steeper section needed to be built up with rocks and small boulders which were plentiful. My clients are elderly but still quite mobile and the old trail they had was off angle, narrow, and steep.

By 2pm I had the stairs all built and feel pretty happy with how it all came out. It was HOT AS BALLS though and I had sweat oodles. I was SO DIRTY from all the dust from throwing the dirt down from above.

I cut down the stump that J had worked on, the boys gathered more golf balls over the time we were there, and then we loaded up the car and were heading for home around 2:30. I was so hot, sore, and worn out after it all. I did not have the time or energy to finish the list of tasks so will be going back this morning to finish them off.

Watched the USMNT get destroyed by Belgium as we ate dinner then headed across the highway to friend's house until 9.

Session this morning then head back to finish the task list. My jigsaw arrives today, my shirts should be done and ready to pick up I hope this afternoon. Supposed to be even hotter than yesterday so I want to get the tasks done pronto.
