So Many Weeds Pulled, Bike Computers, Party, Medical Kits Setup , Scapes, XAlps - Monday
Mornings are now being spent ogling the X-Alps live tracking which helps I am a morning person so I can catch a bit more. The images that come from this race are some of the most incredible paragliding video and images I have seen. It took me a bit to get out to the garden and get to work on pulling weeds.
I was in and out of the house and the garden over the next couple hours and managed to get many rows weeded. Piled into the wheelbarrow it all got hauled to the sheep.
Who seriously enjoyed the fresh food.
The new bike computers arrived and I got them installed on J's and my bikes. Nice and slick, waterproof, and wireless. He broke his last one that was wired so this will work much better for him. I like that I won't have to try to read my watch while riding to see metrics.
I also got @stryeyz new seat installed on her bike and it is far more cushy for the tushy.
J had a birthday party at the lake so I drove him up before 2pm and dropped him off. They mostly swam in the lake the whole time.
Took the time to rebuild the med kit for paragliding. The case gives me much more capacity and I have everything I need in case. Actually just thought about it and I need to add a needle and thread.
I was scoping the garlic and found that there were more scapes growing. I wandered through the rows and cut as many as I could. There are still some trying to pop so I will have to go back in a few days and cut more.
Weeded along the greenhouse later in the day.
Then got through the two bean rows, though there is still a load of weeds to pull.
The animals were good and happy.
@stryeyz got home with J from the party and after work. Target gives away the empty med kit cases with purchase of med supplies so we have a few of them now. I used this one to rebuild the med kit in my car. It came from my truck and was just not big enough so I swapped it all to the new case and added to it. SO MUCH BETTER!
OMG watching the XAlps videos is crazy. Gavin flew with the racers the first day from the first launch and watching him climb to base with everyone.... Just wow.
Got out to soak for a while despite the hordes of mini vampires.
Going to buy the new pew this morning, plus some other stuff at North 40 like an archery target for the boys. XAlps is going, more weeding needs done, bunch of stuff delivers today including my new bike tires I am very anxious to try out, and I have to figure out next day to go fly.

Damn those sheep are getting hairy.. almost 3 bags full. Maybe I should start eating weed instead of smoking it since it appears to promote hair growth..

We have been slacking on the shearing.
Understatement. Those sheep look like vaginas from the 90s
HAH HAH! They love you long time GI!
The new wireless bike computers look really nice!👍😊
Time for a bike ride my friend!🤗
I have one of those Target cases. Handy, especially since I started building my own medkits with better options than the glorified boo-boo bandaid boxes they usually sell as "car kits."
I tried an old-school wired bike computer years ago and found it more of a nuisance than anything else. I more recently bought a handlebar bag with a clear plastic sleeve on top designed to hold a phone. Basic map apps cover speed, etc.
Yeah the store bought kits suck. I have a pretty specific list of items I want in each, my car, paragliding, running, cycling kits. They all have common basics but are then built up for each activity.
These wireless comps seem pretty good for the price. If I get to actual big distance rides then I'll probably get a Garmin or mount a phone, but I know most every road all around me for at least a 30 mile radius of the farm so don't really need the maps yet.
These new tires are killer and are much faster on the pavement. J and I are going to work on some long rides with the aim of an out and back to Newport which is 33 miles one way without riding on the 2 except to cross it 3 times.
I just finished reading the post about the bike ride and tires. When I got new ones for my bike, I seriously considered at least a hybrid tire with a solid center bead for better performance on pavement, but since I live on a gravel road and ride on dirt a lot, I stuck with aggressive tread.
I've been to the Newport library. It's nice. Besides that, I've spent little time in that town. There's a nice gun store on the Idaho side of 41, but Washington has so many stupid gun laws, as you also noted. There also is (or was a few years ago) a solar and off-grid shop just another mile or two down Hwy. 2 there.
I'm looking at where I can go without having to ride on the 395 or 2, which is pretty damn far depending on how much hill climbing I want to do. Both highways have a bunch of parallels that are far less traveled and the speeds are way lower.
Just went for quick ride and these tires are WAY faster. So much easier and climbing the hill was much smoother. They do okay on the gravel but I have to be a bit more careful now without the knobbies.
