Smoke, 26 Mile Bike Ride, Garlic Digging, Irrigation Repair Job - Monday
I went out yesterday morning for a ride earlier before the heat hit. It was smokey as is the norm right now and I had a bit of trouble deciding where to go. I finally settled on heading for Greenbluff. The only thing was the 1.3 mile climb up to the bluff...
Nearing the start of the climb as I rode the short stub north towards it. I have ridden and run down the hill before but this was the first time riding up it. It was slow going in my lowest gear but I made it in under 12 minutes.
Not a ton of traffic on the bluff and a bunch of the stands were open. I rode by one where a younger woman sat waiting for business and she looked completely bored. It was only about 9am so maybe people showed up later in the morning?
Made it back home for the 26 miles and even was able to keep my avg speed up over 15 mph with the long climb.
After eating and cooling down I headed up to dig garlic. I've lost a lot of garlic from the area it appears, the tops died and the bulbs are alive but well and truly hidden in the soil. This batch was better but still having to sift the soil to find some of the bulbs. I have about 1/4 of the section to dig today.
I had my car loaded with my tools and parts and then headed into town for a 2pm irrigation repair job. First time I have been up and over 5 mile in years... What seemed to be problems with the sprinklers actually ended up being a dead valve. The valve had a hole in the diaphragm which was letting the water just keep running to the sprinkler heads, not full force but it was enough that there was big green patches all around each head.
Wonky spot to have the water shutoff, in the ceiling of the downstairs. Also the controller is on the wall where the older woman is unable to even get to it...
Dug up the valve which was plumbed above in galvanized... PAIN IN THE ASS, then pvc below... ANNOYING. I tried a setup with the parts I had but realized I didn't bring the one pvc coupler I needed so thankfully the ACE was not far away. Got the thread by slip coupler and a nipple then after removing the galvanized 90 and nipple I was able to plumb it in in poly. Took a couple hours but she is pleased with it being done. She will possibly have more work for me in the future.
This morning I have my session, just ordered my new bike with the funds from my paraglider sale, then I have to keep digging garlic, pick beans, likely pull the pea plants as they have run their course, keep the boys working on their chore list, hit the post office, then come up with dinner this evening - most likely something on the Blackstone since it is outside and won't heat the house up since it will be near 100F today.

Odd place to have a shut off valve in the ceiling.... not that easily accessible!
Looks like the smoke has made it over to the western side as well ........everything's burning!🙄😳
