Rain, Grain Run, Powder Skiing 49N, First Black and Dbl Black, Popped Turkey, Headlight, PDC, 3DP, Temp Fix - Sunday
It was dumping rain again yesterday morning as I headed to town for grain. For Sunday before dawn there was next to no one out on the roads which made the trip nice and smooth.
I got to the brewery to find the pair of barrels waiting and a homeless person sleeping in the building entryway nearby. The grain loads easily and I was able to keep from making too much noise.
I was able to hit the lights right and mobbed north for home.
The rain was continuous and it seemed to be skipping the basin and pounding us.
It got to be super heavy rain as J and I got ourselves ready to go skiing.
It was after 8am when we got on the road and I had to stop for gas first since there was a train blocking Maverick on my way home with the grain.
We hit the snow as we turned onto the 211 and were in it most of the way to the mountain.
Crazy. 2 turns after this pic the road went from wet directly to snow covered at a distinct line of demarcation. Thankfully I knew the corner was coming and had slowed a lot so when the car slid I was able to keep it from going too far.
We got to Sunrise and it was DUMPING wet wet snow. The temp was right at freezing and the snow was melting fast on our jackets.
Soon we were ready and heading for the lift.
SUPER PROUD of J. First run we went down the ridge to big bear which is the green run down but we ended up in the left wing in the trees. The powder was super nice and it made it so we weren't screaming down the mountain and could make nice controlled turns. Left wing is rated a black diamond. Then we were going to try to go down Dutchman but ended up to low so we just went into Stockholders which is this pic. We had stopped so I could check texts and this shot I think came out great. Stockholders is rated a Double Black Diamond. Neither were at grade given the conditions, both were much easier.
We did the 3rd run down the ridge to Broadway and then right to the car. J's jacket was soaked and frozen solid as was hit pack. My pants were wet from the melting snow while we rode the lifts and we were both good for the day.
It's great to have our passes so it doesn't matter we did just 3 runs.
It was dumping snow still as we drove down the mountain. Stevens county had the plow out early, we followed them the last mile or two to the hill in the morning.
But P/E did not have the plow out at all. Their side of the county line was SHIT! I was VERY thankful I know the road so well since the snow/slush/ice/water on the road made for really treacherous driving. It was only for 8 or so miles but it felt a good bit farther.
Out of the snow and on the 211 heading south there were 3 cars ahead of is in the lane and another oncoming. a group of turkeys was on the side of the road and one walked out right in front of the car. I couldn't do anything, no swerve, barely slow, just hit the fucking thing. It exploded in a mass of feathers and I kept driving not seeing immediate damage. When I parked the car at the farm I got out to see what happened.
It hit the headlight and exploded the plastic mounting bracket and blew up the headlight, though the low beam headlight still works.
It wouldn't stop dumping rain and it just kept piling into the region all day.
The Euro PDC finals was on and it was a first euro finals for both Joyce and Asp. Asp took the win which he deserves and really boosts him after the trouble he's had the past couple of years.
Still trying to finish the filament roll I got the printer going again.
Finally the rain moved off and I headed out to work on the car. I pulled the headlight out and removed the broken plastic parts. The quarter panel got clipped back into place which solidified the area a bit better.
The panel got pushed back a bit which blocked the door from opening. I used the flat bars to pry things out then had to press some metal in to keep the door from catching and scratching. It opens just fine now.
I grabbed a hunk of foam and cut out chunks which pressed into the gap and hold the headlight fixture nice and solid in place. It's not going to be aimed exactly right but it is in place and works a bit still.
Finally the black roll was done and I swapped over to white PLA. I am way behind on armor plates compared to frame plates.
Out to soak regular time and to bed early thanks to being pretty tired.
Today the sky isn't leaking so I will get the boys to school soon, the grain has to be emptied out of the trailer, the printer is going already, I have to work on the truck, the sled, around the farm, then pickup J after running club, R has practice that he will go watch but not take part in until he is healed, and I should go to the flying club meeting.

Nice to see snow still on the slopes!😊
I don’t suppose it will last too much longer ….🙄
With over 180" on the summit the mountain will be open weekends through April and likely into May unless it warms up a ton and melts it all off quick.
That’s awesome!
Sounds like you’ll get a chance to do more skiing.😊
In Colorado, they had to shut down, no matter what the base was because the land was forest service, and they had restrictions on time of year. Usually, April 1 was the end!🙄
