Rain, Grain Run, 3DP, Motor Teardown, Attempting Diagnosis, Bad Seal?, Sun Rain - Friday

Before dawn yesterday I was on the road to town to get grain. I left as it was beginning to rain and it kept at it most of the day. I had to stop for gas on the way in and hadn't noticed before the "pill center" drop boxes that Nom Nom has.

Thankfully traffic was mellow aside from the complete assholes who are crawling along that I just go around at the closest possibility. I never understand the psychosis that causes people to be so belligerent, just get the fuck out of my way you don't own the road.

The grain was still warm and steaming as I shoveled it to the trailer.

Soon it was loaded and I was on the road to home as the rains really moved in.

5:40am and the highway is a stream of lights heading to town as I'm was the only one heading north.

The printer was going as I took the boys to school then over the morning I did more reading in the service manual about removing the head from the motor.

Mid day I got a little respite from the rains before it came dumping again later on.

The bolts all came loose on the head but then I had to get the damned water diverter disconnected which was a pain in the ass. I had to dive into the manual again to figure it out.

As I worked on the truck I would look to the west and see the valley a wall of white as the rain came in. It would then clear and I could see the other side like normal. Then another wave would come through.

Super surprised the filament worked this time save the bottom right corner which wonked...

IMG_20250328_120825.jpg

Finally got the head about loose... as I went to pull it off I found there was an electrical wire bolted to the back. I had to go pickup J from school so let it sit till I was back.

IMG_20250328_130423.jpg

I picked J up and then dropped him at the house then went and waited for R. Fell right back to the old cycle of pickups, got my same parking spot, read until it was time, then bombed for home.

It actually started to break up a bit in the afternoon.

Filling in the colors for the dummy parts and still need a lot more armors printed.

We got a few bouts of sunshine that didn't last very long before more clouds came streaming over.

OFF WITH ITS HEAD!!!!

IMG_20250328_161232.jpg

So here we are.

IMG_20250328_161237.jpg

Middle piston has some weird looking wear on it. Not exactly impact looking but the head has similar coloring....

IMG_20250328_161452.jpg

There was buildup on the one intake valve but that scraped off easily.

IMG_20250328_161502.jpg

This is where things get possibly problems... Not sure about the wear on the exhaust valve on the right. This is front cylinder.

IMG_20250328_162517.jpg

The middle cylinder exhaust valves the front one is showing wet around the seal and on the valve top.

IMG_20250328_162528.jpg

The wet on the valve.

IMG_20250328_162638.jpg

And around the seal. I know this is not right but I don't think it would cause the noise I heard. I ordered a valve spring compressor that will be here today so I can get them out and do the checks.

The other thing I have to test and check is the timing vvt setup. There is a possibility that it went bad and I have the instructions on testing it.

The boys and @stryeyz were off at a skating party then movie night at the school so I had the afternoon to work. At one point we got a super brightly backlit sun/rain that looked pretty killer.

IMG_20250328_173002.jpg

Got to hand it to ya...

IMG_20250328_193904.jpg

Got out to soak for a while after the club had figured out the flying for Sunday.

IMG_20250328_210611.jpg

Today it's not raining finally. I have to go do irrigation and water feature startup for a client, keep working on the truck, empty the grain, prep my wing and gear for the 2+ mile hike to launch, and keep working on converting into sats.
