Rain, 3DP, Spider, Harvests, Garlic Dibble Roller Design & Build, Cross Country - Thursday

It was nice to wake to the rain smell yesterday morning and we got just shy of .2" which the region has desperately needed. My local climate records shows just how it went.

This is just the last water year from Oct 1 - Sept 30 which shows we managed to end a little bit over normal but that was due to the wetter weather earlier then the bone dry summer.

Still can't hold a candle to 2020's total precip.

The fog always has a cool look through the trees on the hill.

I found a 20g two place shell holder and coupled 3 together to get the 6 spot holder.

IMG_20251002_074519.jpg

It holds the shells great and will attach to the side of the shotgun most likely with velcro, but it will be perfectly out of the way of all actions. For a single shot this is kinda a key addition.

Forgot the beets out overnight but the rains did a good job of washing them such it just took a quick spray and they were to the cooler.

Just the few squash again.

IMG_20251002_102057.jpg

Then a nice basket from the greenhouse. I think I will roll the side down on the greenhouse today as the frosts are coming soon.

IMG_20251002_112914.jpg

I had printed out a bunch of garlic dibbles in prep for this but I realized the design I had down was not exactly right so I had to go and design it again.

IMG_20251002_130416.jpg

It took me a bit of searching the farm for the right pieces but I had everything. I started with cutting the 8" rounds on the band saw.

IMG_20251002_133241.jpg

Then after lopping the horizontals to 19" I measured out the spacing for the dibbles.

IMG_20251002_134648.jpg

Drilled the holes for the screws.

IMG_20251002_135124.jpg

Then took the parts to the deck where I screwed the 3d printed dibbles to the boards.

IMG_20251002_141713.jpg

I marked then drilled the holes on the end rounds.

IMG_20251002_143348.jpg

Then installed the rails to the ends.

IMG_20251002_143839.jpg

I used a piece of 1/4-20 all thread in the center with nuts and washers holding everything tight. I used old aluminum crutches arms to make the arms and a dowel for the handle.

IMG_20251002_150848.jpg

I took it up to the garlic garden and it looks like it will work GREAT! The soil needs to be tilled for sure and I likely need to add weight to the roller. NOT BAD for a few hours to design and build. Though the about 40 hours of printing for the dibbles was done earlier this year...

IMG_20251002_151004.jpg

There are not many rolling dibbles for sale and this is one at Johnny's that starts out at $200. I have the design in my head to turn mine into a a viable product made in metal, maybe cast even.... I have to draw it up since I am shit in CAD.

J's cross country meet at our home track went good.

The boys all went out first and had a false start to contend with but then got going for the 1.5 miles.

IMG_20251002_155847.jpg

J did great and he is learning his pacing pretty well.

R trends to the tether ball most often.

IMG_20251002_160444.jpg

J did great and came in 33rd place and ran about a 7:30 mile time. The finish line got rather competitive as kids sprinted in the last few hundred feet.

Today is clear and cooler. My shoulder is garbage and the knots just won't go away. The farm is a mess of various cleanup projects and winter prep along with the tilling for garlic planting. Boys to school soon then I have to drum up the motivation to get shit done today, which I have to admit I'm feeling a bit low on right now.

Whatever you think is fair for an STL file set. I haven't mastered layout for 2D PDF files yet, but I can work in that as well.

I would think that should depend on the time involved for you... If it were to take you an hour that would be one thing but I suspect it would be a number of hours to make.
