Peas, Squash, Garlic, Greenhouse, Paragliding Flight 114, Scooter, Hike, Weeding - Monday
I spent the morning in the garden since the winds were not cooperating at Quartzite, I had the stations up in a window to keep an eye on them. Windy lied but the stations told the truth. So I was in the garden and got another half pound of peas picked. The row is producing really nicely so far.
I had to hack back the branching on the pumpkin plants so they don't take over the much smaller watermelon plants below. It also forces the pumpkins to set fewer so they will get larger.
The garlic had some ready from various rows but not entire rows yet. I got 16 Lukan pulled and hung.
Then I pulled 12 Carpathian.
You can see there is still a lot of green on them.
Then I had to hack at the cucumbers to remove branching then tied them to the twine. The tomatoes need attention this morning.
So Quartzite didn't work out but the winds ended up looking good at Inkler's. So off I drove and got to the hill before 1:30. I dropped the scooter at the base then drove myself to the top.
The cycles were coming in nicely with a bit of lull between.
I was setup by about 1:40 and thought that I was launching into the beginning of a cycle.
Wing came up, I checked it, then turned and off the hill.
I got flying along the hill then when I turned on the north end found shit all for lift. I caught a bit of a bump over the road and tried to turn with it but couldn't find anything solid. I skimmed along the hill a bit but before the quarry found a bubble over the house and tried to get turned in it.
I was not very happy at this point and as much as I tried I couldn't get any lift.
I checked back up the road and tracks for any inbound.
Then as with all my flights on the wing had a nice gentle landing.
Right smack on the tracks.
Short little flight then a hike back to the scooter.
Dropped the wing and grabbed the scooter and headed for the top.
I was about 100 feet from the car after climbing the super steep hills when the scooter died. The power showed still okay but the throttle just stopped. I am pretty sure it broke in the handle. I was super hot, sweaty, out of breath, and frustrated. The scooter dead meant just the single flight. So everything got hucked into the car and away to home I went.
Once home and a bit later in the day I was out making the rounds of the upper property.
The eagles found a fawn somewhere, the tiny little hoof was laying beneath their nest tree.
SO. MANY. WEEDS.
Short soak as per my norm now.
Not a flying day for sure today with the red flag warning. I'll be in the garden and greenhouse early, will work on the scooter, keep gathering everything for my SIV this weekend, watch more SIV videos, then this evening we have a flying club meeting in Chewelah.
