PDC, 3DP, Garlic Rows Uncovered, 8 Mile Bike Ride, Soak, Grilling - Sunday

I hate the time change with all my heart and soul. It is always a shit morning waking up to that sudden shift. Yesterday the continued matches at the UK open were going on so got to keep an eye on them while getting my post written.

I found a file to print that is pedal holders. I have sets of spare bike pedals now and instead of just throwing them randomly in a box this piece is threaded and the pedals screw into them. Works really well.

@stryeyz had gone to Idaho for time with her friend so I was out in the garden finishing hte uncovering of the garlic rows. The wind was PUMPING at times and even in the protected cloister of the farm we still got 20mph wind gusts. Normally the trees buffer us well from it, but not yesterday.

The garlic held really well in the ground and I ended up pulling just 1 up while pitch forking the needles away. NOT BAD for 3300 garlic only pulling one up by accident!

My pile-o-needles now. There are 3 pallets buried in there holding the pile up. This is where they will stay until I need them in the Fall again. I will likely add to it as well so I have extra that might degrade in the next months.

The HUGE issue I will be having this year is weeding the rows. Normally I have plastic down for mulch to keep the weeds at bay.... This is going to be a pain in the ass. I may end up re-applying some of the pine needles to try and limit the grass and weed growth....

The most all seem to have weathered the weird weather and poking their tips above the needles.

It was noon when the boys and I headed out for a bike ride around the lake and back. The clouds were really low and the wind was blowing rather hard at times.

The lake had a fair amount of people walking around it and thankfully the boys have their bells now which did wonders for informing others of our proximity. Much easier than trying to yell ahead, "on your left!".

We rode back south and into the neighborhood where the wind REALLY hit. SW wind, cold, and blasting!. R ended up freaking out at one point as the wind took his breath away and he was having trouble getting it back. Stopped, had him breathe through his shirt and calm down then he was okay.

A nice 8 mile ride and J is for sure going to be prepared for our long ride in a few months. I am getting my new pedals this morning so today's ride will be nifty to try them out. I need to be ready for the 50 mile ride in May for the Lilac Century.

I got the fire going for grilling then we went out to soak for a bit.

The wind was still blasting pretty hard but the fire was protected and the burgers grilled up nicely. It was not exactly easy to get the boys to go to bed at what was an hour early. I managed to get tired relatively easily.

Today I will get the boys to school then once the pedals arrive I will get them swapped and then give them and my shoes a test ride. It's barely below freezing now and will get to the mid 40s F with chance of snow this evening. Hopefully the wind isn't as bad today as yesterday. I will work around the farm and likely get the 2nd tilling done in the main garden then will have to have dinner ready early as R has practice this evening.

With all the people constantly complaining about the time change, I have no idea why it just keeps going on and on!🙄
I wish they would stop as well!!

They won't listen to the public outcry over war or ahem PDF files. Why would they listen to us about clocks?

I've always left the mulch down, in place, for weed protection and moisture retention. Any allium HATES competition from weeds.

They are all spaced FAR to close together for my mulch to work. I have to overhead water them as well so I'm kinda SOL for having to weed this year. The needles may actually work as mulch so I will likely go haul some back in to spread around and see.

I space at 6" apart and get at least 4" deep of mulch between each one, then mulch with a solid leaf of hay in front and back. That way they can come up in the spring and the mulch keeps the weeds mostly gone.
