New Paraglider Wing, The Burn Pile Continues, Flowers, The Hikes, Squirrel Fights, Meeting - Monday

I slept for utter trash yesterday morning, woke up multiple times before finally giving up and just got up at 4:30am. I know why. My wing still sitting in the post office within sight of the farm. When we get chicks shipped in I am able to go to the back door of the post office at 5:00-5:30am so I knew I could yesterday. 5:30 am I was there and was finally in possession of my wing. I got it out of the box but it was mid morning when I got to take it outside.

Incredible how much the fire burned down. I was rather surprised as I had expected there to be a lot more left.

IMG_20250505_083514.jpg

I raked up all the remaining debris onto the coals which caught fire pretty quickly.

It was then time to pull out the wing.

They are just not quite right. The Camino has smart risers as does my Evora but the Evora risers won't swap over as there are 2 differences. I was hoping but no big deal that they won't.

The hill is 90-100 feet high at an up to 60 degree angle and still littered with branches and logs. SO MANY TRIPS UP AND DOWN!!!! Throwing the logs down the hill as far as I could then throwing them farther down... All tossed on the coals the piles burned rather fast.

I had to clear a ton of pine cones from in front of the studio but I then had room to lay out my wings. I folded my Evora into the compression sack for storage.

Then I got to lay out my new Camino. The winds were absolute shit in teh farm but I managed to get the wing to inflate and HOLY SHIT is it smaller than my Evora. The Evora is like a giant blanket in the air, this has a much more sleek look to it. Same width just shorter front back.

Big difference between the Evora M on the left and the Camino S on the right.

More trips up and down the hill had the burn pile well ablaze again. About 2/3 of the sheep pen hill has been cleared and now it's the stuff near the top that is left.

I had to take breaks between each of the hiking sessions and after some food was heading to the mailbox when I walked through the mass of wild onion.

IMG_20250505_115240.jpg

There had been a small smoldering area to the right of the main burn so I got a pile of debris on it and it eventually caught fire.

More trips up the hill and this one brought down some longer trees.

IMG_20250505_131701.jpg

That got drug all the way down the hill.

IMG_20250505_131747.jpg

The hillside is getting cleared pretty fast with the setup but now will be the harder part. I figure I'll use ropes to lash together bundles to haul down the hill now which should make it easier for me.

By 5pm the pile was largely ash. I raked it all up around the tall stump and piled more debris and coals around it to try and keep burning the stump more. I will go out to check it in a while.

J got his Crunchlab box which is rock'em sock'em squirrels.

It was our club meeting in town so I went in and got dinner there. It was just 6 of us but still a good meeting.

IMG_20250505_190354.jpg

I was home in time to go soak for a while.

IMG_20250505_202322.jpg

Still super sore today but have lots to do. Will get the boys to school in a bit, will keep hiking and trundling stuff to the fire, if the winds pickup I will head down to a place to kite about 4 miles away I saw on my way to the meeting, and lots of grasses to deal with around the farm.

I would imagine a smaller wing is more maneuverable, but probably more susceptible to turbulence…….
Let me know how you like it 👍💪😊

The biggest thing right now is that I am 155 lbs, down 10 lbs from what I thought I was flying at. 70kgs now compared to 75kgs and my first wing is rated for 85-105kgs while the new one is rated for 75-95kgs. It puts me far more in the middle area of the range instead of having to ballast just to be in range. The wing flies far different with more loading on it, too light and it acts like a leaf overhead.

Very interesting that makes sense, I didn’t think about you adding ballast😇
Sounds like a nice wing enjoy!👍😊
