Yesterday morning I headed over to my client's to haul off the pile of the branch I cut up prior.
I also had a small stack of logs I forgot to haul off the first time that I carried up the hillside to the trailer.
Loaded the trailer and soon was headed home.
Where I added to the big pile. I am going to get the chipper going this week to start trying to reduce the pile, especially given what happened later in the day in the region.
The winds were really starting to pickup as I went out to the garden to pick peas.
Then I ended up in the greenhouse where I got a nice little load.
Some sweet peppers and maters were even ready.
A fire started north of Airway Heights to the west of Spokane and it was VERY quickly spreading to the north east. We had the first party to go to of the day and stopped for gas and to see the new Midway Market.
We stayed for an hour and a half and at one point there were 20+ in the pool.
The column of smoke was crazy from the first fire. It was headed right for the VA hospital and tons of houses in the NW Spokane area. It is called the OLD TRAILS FIRE.
The fire started out a forest fire but soon turned into city fire and we could tell by the color of the smoke changing to black as it ate houses.
A new fire started right next to the bypass which we had to take to go to the next party out in the east Valley.
It started just down to the right but very quickly crested the hill into houses along the ridge towards the east. It is called the FAIRVIEW FIRE.
We got to the next party, the birthday party for our friend's 1 and 4 year olds. The smoke was visible to the NW.
By 4pm the first fire was burning around the VA hospital and the sports complex. The winds ended up peaking in the mid 40 mph range which helped to really drive the fires.
J was having fun with Shawn's bass.
About 6pm we headed for home unsure which path would be best. I retraced our route up Forker to Bigelow.

WE got to the bypass and were thankfully able to head north back past the Fairview fire.
Another fire had started down the hill to the left and had run up and jumped the bypass to then connect into the Fairview fire. Flames were within feet of the highway as we drove past.
The evening was spent watching the news and @stryeyz was mapping out which employees were likely to be most effected by the fires. Finally made it to bed once the mayor's press conference was over.
Smokey this morning and the fires seem to be far less active, though burning has continued on all 3. A lot of houses have burned and they are just getting to damage assessment this morning. We are heading to Silverwood where hopefully the air won't be thick in smoke.

My daughter was in a tizzy last evening, trying to decide whether or not to evacuate. She is only 1.6 miles from the Fairview fire, but it has been spreading in the opposite direction. The whole situation is quite distracting for me, even though I am not right there. I hope Silverwood isn't too stinky; the Spokane smoke has made the air at our house quite unpleasant.
Sounds devastating my friend...... My heart goes out to all the people that lost their homes!🙄😳
