Harvesting, Tekoa Flying Attempt, Blown Out, Knife, Rock Sorting, Fire, Wasp, Grilling - Sunday

I was out in the garden early yesterday getting various things harvested. A few pounds of squash is so much nicer and easier to deal with compared to the 20+ pounds I was getting each morning years prior.

The cucumbers are giving up some most every day now.

IMG_20250720_082238.jpg

And we have a bunch of acorn squash buried amongst the squash vines. Amazingly we have corn and watermelons growing which is not normal for the farm.

The chatter finally built enough and too many people were going to Tekoa that I had to go and see if I could get a flight. ALL the models showed the winds backing off mid day so we all hoped it would work out.

Got to the gate an it took a bit of waiting for others to arrive.

IMG_20250720_104908.jpg

We got to the top and it was straight NUKING! The wind was sustained 15+ with pumps well over 20.

IMG_20250720_112257.jpg

We all stood and glared at the wind and the sky before heading downhill a bit to try the SE ridge line.

As I hiked down the road I saw Levi setting up on the hillside so stopped to watch his launch.

IMG_20250720_115113.jpg

Of course he popped off the hill and spun up in the air over the mountain. Levi is astonishingly good and so quickly!

IMG_20250720_120718.jpg

So back to the top of the hill we went were Mike was setting up his hang glider, his VERY pricey ATOS that is made of carbon fiber.

IMG_20250720_121648.jpg

The winds never relaxed while we were there and mike kept setting up for his flight. We all headed down the hill as most everyone else was going to Saltese to play. I had no desire for a hike and sledder so headed for home.

IMG_20250720_123545.jpg

Traffic moved well enough and I was home around 2pm. It sucked not getting a flight but it was good to hang with everyone. They all got short flight later in the day while Levi landed at Hayden Lake and Mike landed north of Sandpoint.

IMG_20250720_130816.jpg

Mike's wife had found my hook knife on launch a few month back so I finally got it back. Turns out the sleeve for it was loose and couldn't hold it in. The plastic case needed to be squished back down.

IMG_20250720_142315.jpg

So I took the heat gun to it and got it good and hot so I was able to press the sides together to make it hold much tighter now. I also have it mounted in my flight deck with a lanyard so I don't lose it again.

IMG_20250720_142620.jpg

I spent time on the deck and managed to refine the classifying. I got it dialed so that I can get through a 5 gallon bucket in about 10 minutes.

IMG_20250720_152504.jpg

A quick video of the ease of use.

I now have all 3 buckets sorted to the 3 sizes, well 4 with the dust. The smallest sized and largest amount of rocks went to the 5 gallon buckets while the medium sized went to tubs atop the buckets and the largest rocks in small buckets. We can now work though them and wash and sort.

IMG_20250720_153955.jpg

I got a fire going to grill.

IMG_20250720_190000.jpg

As I was grilling the steaks I saw this wasp thing flying around the bricks. I got out my phone to get a picture of it and managed to snap this shot which was of its last few moments of life.

IMG_20250720_192949.jpg

The dumb thing flew right at the fire and killed itself. It landed there in the ashes.

IMG_20250720_193042.jpg

Dinner on the deck was delicious.

IMG_20250720_194641.jpg

Then out to soak for a bit.

The boys have a play day at friends I will be dropping them off at this morning. Then I have a bunch to do around the farm, there is storms to the south with some rain floating around the region, harvests, garlic to keep trimming, and should work on getting my old phone ready for J.

The steak looks absolutely delicious, we need to pull some out of our freezer!😊
Too bad the winds were rough, I’m sure it’s disappointing not to get a flight in…🙄

It is a bit but in the end no one else flew so it was group commiseration. Even if just I don't fly it's really not horrible, I have to be the one comfortable to launch and fly, no one else. Plus Wed is looking to be a killer day so I will likely get a flight then.
