Grain Run, Harvests, Pine Needles, PDC, Bumblebee, Garlic Seed, Windy, 3D Flight View - Friday

I was up at 5am yesterday morning so I could go to town for a load of grain. It was not a ton but enough that should cover the garlic garden.

It took me just a few minutes to get the grain loaded as the sun was just coming up on the horizon.

Masses of cars going the other way left the road pretty clear for me.

I unhooked the trailer and left it for the day. I planned on wheelbarrowing it up to the garden but my body was in no shape to deal with it. Stupid hip pain and my back is a mass of knots.

Headed out to the garden to harvest what was ready. Trying to make sure I pick the table dainty while good and small and NOT missing them to get elephantiasis.

The cucs I am picking on the smaller side as well.

Around noon I went to the garlic garden and moved all the pine needles to the east side. That is the side that did not produce as large of garlic so I am shifting the rows away from the fence for the next season. I will be putting garlic into the main garden as well so this area will be grown a bit different this next season.

I had a big load of weeds pulled from the garlic garden and the main garden that all got dumped to the sheep who dove into it with gusto.

PDC is on and Littler nearly got got by ol fudge fingers Gilding. He had to work to win the match and will go against Josh Rock today in the semis.

I had to go pickup the co-op order which the driver was early for drop off. Waited for Ty who finally arrived and then bolted for home to get the frozen stuff in the freezer.

R was outside and found a bumblebee on the ground that wasn't seeming to be able to fly. It wandered all over him and he came running inside to show me. After a while I had him go put the bee in one of the squash flowers in the garden. If anything it would be in the place it should be.

My afternoon was spent inside out of the heat weighing out the garlic to save for seed. Each went to a labeled brown paper bag.

IMG_20250725_152858.jpg

All 13 varieties seed bagged and ready for the cooler. I set the box on the deck so it will get hot during the days to help dry the garlic out a bit more before going to stratify. I prefer to have less moisture in the peels/leaves so as to reduce molding over the 60-ish days.

Then I had to find a bunch of boxes and trays to sort the remaining garlic for us. The bags took up a ton of space so this will make it easier to store for now. I really need to figure out a really storage setup especially since I will likely have 3-4000 heads next year.

The wind was blowing pretty hard all day long, each of my drives the sled was getting pushed all over the place despite its short stature. I headed up to the launch and found that I should have hauled the wing up for a little kiting. The gusts had died down enough it would have been perfect.

My back and hips said hell no though so it was back down to the house I went.

IMG_20250725_190351.jpg

Stupid skin and knots made for a really short soak.

Found the place to see my flights in 3D! This is SUPER nice to see as I can move any direction around the path and can really get granular on the specific spots I need to work on. I should have been turning better in the lift but I managed to stay in the thermal for some turns. I uploaded most all my flights so I can go and peruse them, mainly the longer flights, the sledders aren't that interesting.

Today I work on the garlic garden and spread the grain, there are potatoes that can get dug, there are many plants to pull, weeds to pull, tomatoes need trimming and tying as do the cucs, and the mower must get pushed around.

I think seeing your flights in 3-D could be extremely helpful!👍😊

About a week ago, I found a bumblebee on the ground as well. At first, I thought it was dead. I poked it with a piece of cloth instead of my finger just in case, and it suddenly acted very defensive. I think the cloth got stung. But the bee clung tight, and I lifted it into a nearby flower planter.

I just noticed it can last up to 25 years.
Is it true?
Amazing... I never thought it could last that long being stored that way.

I don't know that it can last that long and be viable to grow. It usually lasts about a year to at most 2.
