Glass Bottle House, Crawford Bay Free Ferry, Kaslo, Adventure Domes, New Denver, Thunder Storms - Friday PHOTO DUMP
Out for breakfast yesterday morning at the Ricky's before we got packed up and headed north.
The road runs all along the edge of Kootenay lake which is huge.
Midway between Crawford and Creston is the glass bottle house that was built in the 50s out of 600,000 embalming fluid bottle collected from all over the country.
It really is an incredible work of art. The story is amazing and the fact he built it in a year and finished the interiors in a year is amazing. It did take him 10 years to gather all the bottles.
We walked all around the place and checked out everything we could. I'd heard of the place many years ago and have always wanted to see it.
For a quick stop at the store for bathrooms I was astounded by the massive powersaws they had on display.
We busted ass to get to the ferry on time but thanks to an ambulance we were the 4th car from getting on so had to wait an hour for the next one.
We had wandered around the landing and bay for a while before the ferry finally landed and we were parked at the front, which became the back for the trip across.
We got out and went around the ferry to watch the water go by.
Kootenay lake is a super long lake. I looked and it is consistent 400 feet deep most of its length.
The bigger of the ferries going the other way as we passed midway.
The ferry landed and we were the 3rd car off and had no traffic to follow as we headed north.
We got to Kaslo and headed right for the Kaslo Hotel for food. Poor R had gotten car sick minutes away so ended up having an empty stomach.
The wasps are awful and R got hit on a finger by one. It mellowed after a while and he ate the "kids" burger which was a full size one.
After eating we walked down Kaslo main street and stopped at the bookstore.
I thought this was a cool looking stairwell in one building.
R asked to play and was given the okay for the piano in the bookstore and he got a few bit that sounded pretty good considering.
We left Kaslo and headed west to New Denver.
Soon we were at out place to stay. The Adventure Domes are a group of 5 domes that are rentable. We saw them 15 years ago and have always wanted to stay in them so this was killer we get to. We got the 2 story one so the boys get the loft.
They are not huge but about the size of a hotel room. The bedroom has a pair of beds and was quite comfortable last night.
Idaho peak there is now inaccessible thanks to the road washed out.
The market where we went for some snacks and breakfast stuff.
We got back in time to watch the thunderstorms move in and dump.
At 7pm we headed over to the tavern for a drink and bits of food.
The boys started a game of pool way later than they should have and we managed to get out right at closing.
The region needed the rain badly to put out the masses of fires all around the region.
Today it will be stormy off and on and we are going to go hit up the hot springs. Both Nakusp and Halcyon hot springs are to the north.
