Giro Crashes, Lilac Parade, Attic Access Job, Mowing, 13 mile Ride To Lake, Hen and Chicks, Chicks - Saturday

Watching the Giro in the mornings and 2 days in a row there were huge crashes. Yesterday the rain was the problem really and a few got stretchered off the course.

Took J to the school to ride the bus to the parade then the 3 of us headed down to meet and watch him go by.

R and I went separate from @stryeyz as she had her coworker's graduation to go to after.

Right on time they marched by and he had his bass that he wasn't too pleased having to play Firework...

Once the school went by we headed out.

I then had a job back in town which was pulling this attic cover out of a closet and exposing the access. The wood was exact size of the closet depth so was not wanting to come out easily.

Thankfully I had my hand saw with me and was able to cut a blade width off the wood which made it fit SO MUCH better. I ended up just putting the screws back in to hold it up. Avista is doing an inspection for heating so needs access to the attic to see how much insulation there is. I left the screws a few turns out so they can see them easy and can pop the panel off easy.

Great view from the complex that is right on the point overlooking the Latah creek and Spokane river confluence. It was less than an hour job and I was on my home by 1:30.

Back home I got the mower and pushed it around the farm trying to get the weeds hacked down quickly.

Both sides of the driveway are done.

And I am moving to the rest of the farm. Still a couple hours of mowing left to do. May get J on it today.

@stryeyz and R headed up to the lake for a wet suit swim. I rode my bike up and had done a loop of hte lake by the time they arrived. I DID get a flat tire on my front, again, so was changing the thing out. I was inflating the tire and then the air stem broke on the new tire.... THANKFULLY I carry 2 spares at all times so was able to get my backup inflated and continued my ride. I stopped to watch them swim a bit then did a lap.

They have buoy bags for later swims that they tried out.

I left them to swim then headed back out for the rest of my ride. You can just see how the radar shows me a vehicle on my Edge. Red bands on the side and a white dot that gets closer to "me" at the top on the right of the screen.

It was not too warm nicely and I did a couple laps of the Perry mile straight before heading down the hill to the house.

Mellow 13 mile ride.

I was out wandering the farm a bit looking for eggs when I saw a hen with 5 chicks in the sheep pen.

4 white and a black chick.

IMG_20260509_175940.jpg

SOOOOO then a couple hours later I was back out on the farm and heard eeping which was a white and a black chick standing in the middle of the pen with no hen around. I picked them up and went looking for the hen or more chicks, which I found a chick shivering and silent near the coop. Still no sign of the hen or 2 other chicks....

So the 3 ended up in the house. R is enamored with them. They did nicely overnight with the heat lamp, all 3 are still alive this morning. I will be out scouring for the others today.

Giro stage 3 is on, it's Mother's day today so will do a family ride this morning maybe, @stryeyz wants to swim again, I have a day off of jobs but more to look at scheduling, will keep mowing, figure out chick situation, unload my car of tools, and likely grill for dinner tonight.

1 week until my 50 mile ride!!!! This time next Sunday I will be heading to the start to ready for the ride then start at 8:30. Hope is for sub 3.5 hour time which should be possible with lots of downhills and flats in the course.

Really odd that the air stem on your new tire broke ….. 🙄
Glad you carry extra spares, you just never know!😇👍

It was the bike pump that tweaked it and broke it due to my error. 🤷‍♂ Exactly why I have more than 1 spare with me at all times.
