Dead Spark Plug Wire, 3DP, Rain Dumps, New Plugs n Wires, Codes, Head Valve Work, Conferences, Practice, Hockey, Trailer - Wednesday

Crazy start to the morning yesterday. After the engine cleaning I let the sled sit overnight then yesterday morning when I went to take the boys to school the engine barely ran. I got us to the school and dropped J for his bus then drove around to wait for R to go in. I opened the hood and saw the front left boot of the ignition coil zapping current to the bolt below it. I turned the car off then pulled the plug.

Wow. The wire and contact were TOAST! No wonder the sled had been running like shit. I crammed the wire back in and then was SO BARELY able to get the car back to the house. 3 cylinders did not a happy engine make.

So once home I put in the order for new spark plugs and new wires at Napa that @stryeyz picked up for me. I got the printer going then and am filling in the rainbow of colors for the dummy sheets. I need as many as possible by the weekend after next.

The Basin blew up in the morning and there was oodles of storms building and heading our way. The first hit mid morning.

I could see the wall of white moving across the valley as the rain pounded down.

Then it hit.

The hand sheets need to be in more colors than I have printed so far.

When the rain had subsided for a bit I went and pulled the plug wires and plugs in the sled to be ready to install the new ones.

Realized I hadn't made frame sheets yet in the light gray so got those printing. Also disconnected the receiver and took the top off and blasted it out hard with the air compressor. It was desperately in need of the cleaning. I have to do a bit more cleaning on it to get it to not smell.

The boys got home from school with the half day and start of their spring break.

While working on the truck head I remembered that I needed to clean the intake and exhaust channels. The intake were really not that bad, a bit of oily grease buildup but it just took a bit of scrubbing with the brass brush and some wiping with the paper towel and they were pretty good looking.

I then realized that I hadn't touched the exhaust side and have already reinstalled the springs and valves so that means they care coming BACK out so I can clean all the carbon from the exhaust channels.

Was rather hoping Everton could upset Liverpool but they just couldn't manage it.

IMG_20250402_131843.jpg

@stryeyz got home and I got to work right away on the sled. This is the #1 cylinder spark plug which is the wire that toasted. Yeah, it wasn't happy.

IMG_20250402_133207.jpg

New plugs installed and new wires all attached and the engine sounds and runs WAY better now.

We went up to J's school for our teacher conference which went as we expected. J is top of his class daily and in testing and is wanting to be challenged more in math. He is an exemplary student and works well with most everyone. We headed for home as the storms were readying to go off.

I managed to sneak my laptop out to the sled before the downpours and got the codes reset. I then took the sled for a quick drive up the highway and back and it is so much better. It still has the shake at 60-70mph but I am sure that is in the suspension/drive train, like an out of balance drive shaft on the left side or something.

IMG_20250402_143328.jpg

The intake valves all got brushed on the bench brush so they are nice and clean then I got them and the springs all installed. I'll pull the exhaust side again today.

R's conference was at 3:30 and this beast of storm cell was COMIN RIGHT FER US!!!

Screenshot_20250402-152033.png

The leading edge was nasty looking.

IMG_20250402_152448.jpg

As we were in the conference the sky let loose and we walked out into the downpour.

IMG_20250402_155709.jpg

It took the thing a while to get past us and the worst of it skimmed to the north of us so we just got the bottom edge. It was still a lot of rain.

J wanting more challenging math I remembered my math book from my electrician schooling was still in storage so I went out and grabbed it. He dove right into it. It's more of a practical math that starts at the basics he has been working on in school and progresses quickly up to low end trig.

IMG_20250402_163615.jpg

R had wrestling practice which there were only a few kids there for.

IMG_20250402_181243.jpg

GR8 got another goal! The game devolved into a grudge match of fights. Near the end of the game each team was down to 8 men on each bench so many had been sent to the locker room already with 10 minute majors. OV is only 3 away now!

IMG_20250402_184319.jpg

Once @stryeyz got home with R I went and hooked the trailer up for the grain run I have done this morning already.

IMG_20250402_200603.jpg

The Kraken played and I wasn't really paying attention that much. It appears they won 5-0 when it means nothing since they are eliminated from playoffs already being the 4th worst in the league.

IMG_20250402_200830.jpg

I went and soaked for a while but headed to bed to get up early this morning. Not like that is hard for me to do.

IMG_20250402_202125.jpg

Today I've been to town for grain and already emptied the trailer so I am not doing it later, the boys are on spring break, I will work on the head valves, whip the boys to room cleaning, PDC is on mid day, the printer will be going soon and try to stay going all day, and I HAVE to fill potholes on the road as they are ATROCIOUS now.

I glad it was an easy fix. If I can just figure out the shake at speed the thing will be mechanically pretty sound.
