Day Long Rain, 404, 3DP, Heater, Spider, Utd, Fly Tying, PT Store, Duo? - Monday

FMB! My shit sleep again had me seeing the 4:04 "sleep not found" yesterday morning. The storm was still messing about in the region and the bulk for the day was still to hit.

I am having serious problems with the layering on these... Not adhering in spots. May need to try the smooth plate and hair spray to get a better print.

The heater had not wanted to turn on so once I got the boys to school I headed up into the attic to troubleshoot it. I pulled open the panel and found only a single fuse on the control board. I pulled the fuse to check it and it was fine, so put it back, tried the switch and the thing popped back to life... Just thinking of a service call for all of a fuse would have been $100+... I save us lots of money on service calls all the time.

As I was climbing up to the attic I found we have a barn spider still alive under the pergola. She is a big fat one and has ample food still given the 50F temps.

Kept popping them off as the borked during the print so only got half the plate printed.

It was mid morning and the rain was just dumping.

Trying to find a folding/rolling/portable chess board and found this one that is a puzzle. Scaled it down but it is super thin and has to be glued together in sections.

The pounding of the rain on the roof was rather loud for a lot of the mid day time.

Noon Man Utd played the Wolves and actually managed to beat them. I mean Wolves are dead last and trying for a record minimum points for the season, but it IS Utd... They have the general tendency to blow shit up and kick the season off into the shitter.

As the rain pounded down I took a bit of time to tie. This nymph bead head came out pretty good.

The water deluge!

Hand wrapping the Firestar nylon gave a nifty look to the fly and the UV glue holds the fibers in place. This is a glass seed bead from my grandmother's supplies I found.

I am rather surprised Reuben has managed to squeeze this much out of the team...

The rest of the chess board.

R got off the bus and we headed right to town for his PT appointment. I dropped him off then headed to the store and to get gas. I hit Dollar General looking for tying supplies but ended up finding flowers for @stryeyz, and a number of other things NOT related to tying. Then went to get gas as the traffic was atrocious.

The clouds were still super low and heavy.

IMG_20251208_155519.jpg

Killer price on packs of clothes pins. And Snyders pretzels are $1.25 a bag which is over half off the regular stores...

IMG_20251208_163242.jpg

Still more problems with the lower layers.... I have some serious fiddling to do.

IMG_20251208_183101.jpg

Got a cone metal bead head nymph tied. The chenille pulled off the string so it has a bit of a tail.

IMG_20251208_193957.jpg

J is a bit behind in his bass practice and has lost digital access until he gets his time put in and his grade fixed....

IMG_20251208_195208.jpg

SERIOUSLY!?!? Duolingo is in trouble?! Lol, I had to laugh at the headline. Duo...

Today is to be the wind after the rain. I'll get the boys to school, I have my session this morning which I need, will get the printer going again, will have to check on the heater and maybe blow the dust out of the thing, work on the truck engine, then come up with dinner tonight.

Glad the heater is working now, service calls are atrociously expensive!🙄
I don’t know how people afford doing things if they can’t fix them themselves everything is so expensive!

Possible solutions to the layering issue:

  1. Check for debris in the feed system, especially the gear or hobbed wheel int he extruder head.

  2. Check the diameter of the filament and see whether it varies. This requires an accurate set of calipers or even a micrometer. If it varies, that can cause layer issues.

  3. Try slightly boosting the extrusion rate manually in the print settings for either the file or on the printer itself.
