Car Wash, First Road Test, Socket, Co-op, Bolt, Trampoline, Timing Cover Stuck, Printer Fixed - Friday
Yesterday morning I went out to find the heater had stopped overnight in the car so I had to go find others to stuff inside to try and dry it out. So while the heat was going I got to washing the outside down. I used dawn to cut through the crap and it cleaned up okay in the end.
It took a lot of wiping down on the inside and still needs more cleaning of the windows but mostly it is good now.
The poor thing was coated in pitch which needed to be bladed off.
Napa sucks dick and didn't have the socket in until Monday due to a stock issue.... So fuck em I went for the first road test of the car and went to Deer Park top Autozone and picked up the correct 22 mm deep well socket.
It's PERFECT!
The Belgian PDC is on this weekend and I managed to catch Barney's win in the round.
HOLY SHIT DID THAT WORK RIGHT! When all else fails use a bigger wrench! The 36" pipe wrench gave me well more than enough torque to get the stupid bolt loose.
I just got it loose when I had to head down to the co-op pickup which took a lot longer than should have due to the driver getting stuck in a town neighborhood for a bit.
Back home the pulley came off in my hand without a puller or anything.
The boys had gotten home and wanted me to finish the trampoline setup they had started on Thursday. They got most of the way done but weren't strong enough to get the last springs.
So I grabbed my grandfather's old sea fish hook and used it to pull the rest of the springs into place.
So.... now I can't get the timing cover off. It's stuck.
All the bolts are out that I can tell but it is sticking in the center above the crank shaft. I can't fuck this up so am being super careful, but have little clue what is holding it up. I looked at the images online and can't seem to see what could be the issue.
Maybe I have to fully shift the ac compressor?? I don't know. I will dink with it later today.
So J and I looked over the info and pics but couldn't see the problem so I called it good for the day and then got to work on the printer. It was giving a fan error and I finally did the troubleshooting step of heating the nozzle to over 60C and see if the fan comes on. I did and it didn't after putting everything together. THEN I unscrewed the board screws and it popped back to life.
So now I know NOT to attach the board so tight.
With that the printer was back working and I got the lid printed out for the snap ring pliers.... which aren't Irwin but that doesn't matter.
Got a soak in then @stryeyz got home and joined.
Today is R's first wrestling tournament which we will be heading out to soon. It's paper seeding so will be interesting compared to the online tourneys. When we get home I have to keep working on the truck and trying to get the timing cover off safely.

Looks like progress, my friend. Hope you get the timing cover off today!👍😊
Man, I remember the last 30° or so of trampoline spring attachment being an absolute pain when we had one. I wore work gloves to keep my hands from getting pinched and just reefed back with all my body weight to even hope to get them to link back when I was a teen with impatient younger siblings.
Any issues with the Subie? I've pondered getting an old Legacy, but I've also heard horror stories about older flat-4s and their wear-and-tear patterns.
I think the drive train is my issue right now from all the sitting of the sled. It does just fine up to 60 mph but over it has some issues. It can get up over 70 with some smoothness.... I wouldn't likely buy a high mileage sub since I know what I DO TO THEM... But a mid mileage one could get a lot of years out of it and the engines are stupid easy to work on.
