Arctic Cold, Elcap, Birds, The Creek, 3DPrinting, Dummy 13s - Monday
The forecast is always for the airport 7 miles northwest of the farm which is up on the plain which gets a good bit colder than we do. So it hit about 0F yesterday morning instead of the sub zero called for. Still damned cold though.
I found a model of Yosemite valley that also had El Capitan. I hacked off the back and then did a test print with minimal layering which El Cap itself came out good but El Cap meadow did not so well. So I tried another one with more walls and layering but the face didn't come out any better. Still super cool.
The birds spend all day following the sunshine around the farm. Wherever it ends up there they are, standing on one leg, feathers puffed up as they try to hold the heat in. The turkeys just kept their heads buried in the bale.
Went to see the tunnel and creek and was a bit surprised to find the ice super slushy. An ice dam had built up so the water was flooding over the top of the ice and melting it.
Pretty thick ice that will likely be a good bit thicker this morning.
The surface was frozen up into the tunnel and was blocked from flowing out by the thicker ice. I'm curious just how far back it's frozen but I would need my waders if I wanted to go in.
This is the crux for winter on the farm. The trees and the hill block so much of the possible sunshine hitting the ground that we stay frozen a good month longer than the surrounding areas.
Next batch of filament arrived and I finally have another green.
The printer was working all morning on more parts for the Dummy 13 orders J has at school. They take a while just because of all the small parts.
Each of these plates took 3 hours each. About an hour per "card". I had kept the fireplace going all day to ward off the cold outside and made sure to keep it going into the night. I got dinner ready early and @stryeyz took R to wrestling practice as he wanted her to stay and watch.
I really need to get new flights, theses are rather beaten up now. It does make me adjust my throw a tiny bit to compensate for the chewed up air flow. I need to stop winjing about it and just try the TPU as that will make good flights.
Down to one-offs color-wise but made an extra set to have on hand.
Typical time soaking again.
This finished just before 9 and I got the blue loaded and set to run. It was done this morning and the last one is running right now. Pink PLA is actually printing nicely.
Just hit -3F outside as the horizon is tinged in color. Today I will get the boys to school, check on the creek mid morning, keep the printer going, check the bird and sheep waters, City/RM play mid day, then this evening the boys have school skate night at the roller rink.
