3DP, ANOTHER Car Wreck, Hoodie, O2 Sensors, Truck Motor Teardown, Heli, Target, Trending?, Beat - Wednesday
I woke yesterday still frustrated with with the truck and the whole process and as I passed the printer I remembered the print was done. I got it off the plate then after a bit got the next one going. The printer is a bit loud in it's startup phase so I try not to wake everyone in the house with it.
Got the boys to school, my post written, then waited for our friend to drop by to pickup her co-op order.
She was running late so I headed to North 40 after setting the new ramps to the side. I went for a new hoodie and stuff for the motor.
As I headed down the hill to our turn I saw the unmistakable scene of ANOTHER CAR WRECK at our intersection. It was 15 days ago that the last one happened, which turned out worse than this one. I was 4th one to stop at the scene and pulled onto our road and parked to then go help.
Almost the same exact wreck only this one wasn't at full highway speed.
I could see right away that there were not very serious injuries, no blood, screaming, etc. The drivers were getting out or being helped out of the vehicles and 911 was being called.
So I once again was out clearing the debris off the highway to allow traffic to get past.
I had passed the half a house on the way north and it sat waiting. I got the bulk of the debris moved by sweeping it away with my shoes and tossing aside the larger. The truck driver was thankful and they were able to squeeze the thing between the two wrecked vehicles.
I was super surprised they fit between. I hung around for a little while until a EMS guy arrived, all the drivers were seemingly minor injuries only, and eventually the rest of the fire trucks and highway patrol arrived. I took off before that and drove the 300 feet to the house.
The point of my trip to North 40 was to get the Grunden hoodie. Almost half off sale right now I am super stoked on it. This is gear made for shitty weather and rough environments. The moment I saw the email for this I knew it will be perfect for ice climbing, paragliding, fishing, skiing, and almost any other outdoor venture.
Tried to cobble together a pair of models for the storage wall. A cellphone holder that I attached the usb cord holder to. My phone just wont fit right, BUT J's does. So I gave it to him later.
I went back out to seethe wreck and at half an hour after the incident the the one vehicle had been moved up the highway a bit and the fire crews had the road blocked until they swept and cleaned the road better.
SERIOUSLY... 2 WRECKS IN 15 DAYS AT THE EXACT SAME SPOT!? At least there has only been one fatality in the past decade+.
I had stopped for gas on the way home and tossed in more engine restore which is seeming to help the sled motor run a lot smoother. I'm still unsure of the shake at 60mph but after checking every fluid level I could I'm of the mind its something in the drive train/suspension that hits a harmonic at that speed. I got the O2 sensors swapped and found that the front one had a broken wire then the rear has a cobbled together plug that I have no idea if I plugged the wired in right.
I do know that the car ran a good bit better after the sensors were changed so hopefully I might get a bit more distance out of the thing. I'd like to have more than a 15 mile radius.
The filament is getting swapped regularly as I am trying to build color stock of the dummy parts. I'm making sure to have at least a pair of armor and frames in each color with extras of some key colors.
I had to do some more investigation in the FSM to learn about the fuel system. I was happy the fuel lines weren't under pressure so I pulled them easily. I managed to pop off the intake manifold which gave me a view into each of the valves. I looked closely at each one but can't seem to see anything glaringly wrong. The guides are all in place, there are no chunks or pieces broken, so I don't know yet.
It was that time of day when R got home from school and I had popped off the water pump and bagged it. Most of the bolts were loose on the timing cover, the valve covers, and I had the electrical wires nicely out of the way.
I had to run up to pick J up after running club and it was a really good test of the sled. The engine is sounding and feeling much better now and it is handling the acceleration okay. The transmission fluid is fine but the thing has a little trouble shifting out of 3rd into drive, it's an automatic.
The next frames done.
As I was plugging away on the truck R was outside and we heard the THWOMP THWOMP THWOMP of a helicopter flying low and fast. I was just able to get the shot of it as the camo green helo zipped by at about twice tree height headed north northeast.
R wanted to use his bow so I went and got the target setup better for them. The packaging from our Thrive boxes works PERFECT as stuffing for the box target. NOW the arrows don't shoot straight through both sides and actually stick. It is WAY better now but we have to make sure they don't let it get soaked.
By 4:30 pm I had the covers all removed on the motor. The main timing chain came off along with all the guides, the main tensioner, then the bank 2 cam sprockets and chain.
I then spent the next 45 minutes attempting to remove the exhaust bolts. HOLY SHIT IS THIS A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!! I used a very liberal amount of penetrating lube on them and THANKFULLY found my rounded nut socket set which allowed me to get all but the bottom back one off. I used the small air ratchet which helped but also fucked the nuts. I finally had enough and gave up for the night. My body and head were totally torched. There is just SOOOOOO much contortioning I have to do to reach some of these damn parts...
@stryeyz took R to wrestling practice which he was able to almost fully engage in. I had swapped filament again and got the gray sets done.
They weren't back from wrestling until after 8pm and R showered instead of soaked so it was just the tow of us. I got a half hour in.
Well... THAT'S been a long time. I think maybe the 5th or 6th time in 8 years I've managed to hit the trending page.
The armor sets were done while we soaked so I got them pulled and in with the rest.
There was a chance of storms overnight so I had to go and cover the motor.
I also wrapped the timing cover and pulled the table under the cover. I then went in and after downing a Flexeril was able to knock out.
Today likely will rain at some point, I'll get the boys to school in a while, the printer will be going soon, try and setup flying for the weekend, Continue the motor tear down and hopefully get the head removed, wash clothes @stryeyz has the afternoon off, then will pick the boys up from STEM, and come up with dinner.

Sounds like a dangerous intersection…🙄
I’m glad no one was hurt bad!
We are the mid point between the traffic lights 14 miles apart and all the traffic gets spread out so by the time they wave hits our road there is shitty spacing. People have perfect sight either way but still manage to wreck.
Wow…. Sounds like they’re picking up speed when they get past your intersection, I guess they’re just not looking….🙄
