27.47 Mile Bike Ride, Doh, HOT, 3DP, Saddle Bag, Cucumbers, Bike - Thursday

After the stage was over for the Tour De France I was out the door on a ride. It was about 8:30am when I headed out and it was not horribly warm or smokey yet, thankfully.

My bike seemed to know that it is getting superseded so it was giving me some fits on the ride.

As I rode I found that my left pedal felt like my shoe was loose in the clip. I stopped in some shade along the road and jumped off to see. Went to tighten the pedal and then realized that the crank bolt had come lose and the left crank was nearly falling off... THANKFULLY I had the 12mm hex to tighten it back up.

About 1/2 a mile before this pic by the big fields of sunflowers I was climbing a hill on Wild Rose when the chain popped off the cassette and my bike free wheeled. Since I was on a hill my momentum stopped, the pedals did nothing, so I was left balancing, stopped, and as I tried to unclip from the pedals I wasn't able to in time and fell over into the ditch on the side. Slammed my right leg into the dirt and gravel as I went over and down.

The bike was protesting I think. In my mind it was just more proof that my new bike which will BE HERE TODAY!!!!! was a very good decision.

Still managed a 27 mile ride and was able to clean my leg up once home.

I am so anxious for my RS5 to get here this afternoon and will have to take it out on a small jaunt this evening.

The 50 mile ride is Sunday which I REALLY hope the smoke clears out of the region for so it still can go on. The forecast shows it clearing...

Ugg, it was over 102F for the afternoon. The a/c was running all day trying to keep the house near 70F.

As I got home on my ride the mail had delivered and so had my new saddle bag. I needed to print out a new attachment for my Varia radar .

The bag is bigger than the one on my old bike and the new connector is nice and tight. The bag needed to be bigger as I got a battery mini compressor for inflating tires. Plus I will want 2 spare tubes and the RS5 has 32mm tires where the old has 25.

The Varia sits nicely on the bag. I like it on the bag since it obscures a bit of the Varia's view if it were to be mounted on the seat post.

Over the day I got more jobs off Thumbtack. Scheduled both for today but they both rescheduled. The one since the art she has coming won't be delivered until Wednesday. I do have a small repair which I will do this morning then scheduled a job for Monday morning to work on doors and some misc tasks up north.

I braved the heat a bit and found an actual handful of peas were ready in spite of the heat. Then found 4 cucumbers in the greenhouse that were ready.

Had dinner ready early but then the boys decided they were not interested in going to kickball due to the heat and smoke which had set in heavy as the afternoon wore on.

I was up at midnight this morning but it was still 75F outside. Woke up at 4am again and it was 70F outside and 77F in the house. I finally got to open the windows and get the fans on which has the house down closer to 70F now.

MY NEW BIKE DELIVERS TODAY!!!!!! Which means I will be riding it for the 50 mile on Sunday. A good initial test.

Today I will go do the irrigation repair earlier, try to keep the house cool all day, hopefully schedule more work for next week, put my bike together once it gets here, and go for a short ride to test it out after. I will try to work in the garden as it will be under 100F today....
