Lucky Clover - Wood Carved Necklace [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, I hope you are all well. Greetings to all the colleagues who share their wonderful creations in this great community. My best wishes to all of you. I want to share with you a necklace I made from a very particular but beautiful piece. I carved the figure of a four-leaf clover from a small piece of wood. This enigmatic plant, classified as a true rarity, is seen as an amulet and in Celtic culture represents many things, related to nature, life, and spirituality. The uniqueness of the four-leaf clover is its number of leaves, as it is very difficult to find one, making it a true rarity. So I carved this piece from reddish wood. It is somewhat small but charming. I will briefly describe how I made it step by step. I hope you like it.

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, saludos para todos los compañeros que comparten sus maravillosas creaciones en esta gran comunidad, para todos ellos mis mejores deseos. Quiero compartir con ustedes un collar que hice de una pieza muy particular pero muy hermosa, en una pequeña pieza de madera he tallado la figura de un trébol de 4 hojas, esta enigmática planta, catalogada como una verdadera rareza es vista como un amuleto y en la cultura celta representa muchas cosas, relacionadas con la naturaleza, la vida y la espiritualidad. La particularidad del trébol de 4 hojas es su número de hojas, ya que es muy difícil encontrarse con uno, siendo así una verdadera rareza. Así que he tallado esta pieza en madera de color rojizo, es algo pequeña pero encantadora, relataré brevemente paso a paso como pude realizarlo, espero les guste.

PROCESS

First, I select the wood. I've always used two types of wood, and the choice depends on what I want to achieve with the piece. In this case, I used this redwood because it's a little softer for carving, and the cloverleaf, due to its shape, requires small, precise cuts. So, I took the piece and began to sketch the cloverleaf on one of its sides with a pencil. Afterwards, I thoroughly sanded the surface and polished it for better drawing. Then, the process involves carving the edges with a knife, which has a slightly wider cutting blade.

En primer lugar es la selección de la madera, siempre he utilizado dos tipos de madera y la selección depende de lo que deseo lograr con la pieza, para este caso utilizo esta madera de color rojo porque es un poco mas suave para tallar, y el trébol por su forma amerita de cortes pequeños y precisos. Así que tomé la pieza y en una de sus caras comencé a hacer el boceto del trébol con un lápiz, no sin antes de lijar bien la superficie y dejarla pulida para dibujar mejor. Luego el proceso es tallar los bordes con una navaja escolar, que tiene la hoja de cortar un poco más ancha.

I started by carving the edges of the clover with the school knife. If you look closely, the design of this plant resembles four hearts connected by a small stem, so the goal is to carefully shape the edges. Because it's a small piece, the cuts should be made slowly and without applying too much force, as it's easier to damage the wood and lose the original shape.

Comencé tallando los bordes del trébol con el cúter escolar, si se fijan, el diseño de esta planta parecen 4 corazones unidos por un pequeño tallo, así que el objetivo es hacer la forma de los bordes con mucho cuidado. Al ser una pieza pequeña los cortes deben hacerse más lentos y sin aplicar mucha fuerza, ya que es más fácil que la madera pueda estropearse y se pierda la forma que se había dibujado en el principio.

I continue this process until the entire piece is finished around the edges. As you can see, you can see how the shape looks; if we left it that way, it would look like a simple stamp. So, all that's left is to add a few small details so the heart-shaped leaves have a more polished and carved relief.

Continúo con este proceso hasta finalizar toda la pieza por los bordes. Como pueden observar, se puede apreciar como queda la forma, si lo dejamos de esta forma quedaría como un simple sello. Así que solo queda hacerle unos pequeños detalles para que las hojas que tiene forma de corazón tengan un relieve mejor tallado y pulido.

Next, I use the smaller blades to shape each of the leaves that make up the clover. So, I start by carving the center, marking the dividing lines between each of the leaves. You can see how the heart shape becomes more apparent with each carving. I continue doing this little by little until I finish with the stem of the leaf.

Después utilizo las cuchillas más pequeñas para darle forma a cada una de las hojas que conforman la forma del Trébol. Asi que comienzo tallando el centro marcando líneas de división entre cada una de las hojas, pueden ver como la forma de corazón se va apreciando mejor con cada tallado. Así poco a poco voy haciendo hasta finalizar con el tallo de la hoja.

After finishing the carving and shaping process, I began sanding the entire piece until it was polished. I placed a metal piece for the necklace on top of the stem. Finally, I dipped the clover in protective varnish and let it dry for a few minutes. I sanded the piece again and then dipped it again in the varnish, and that's it.

Después de finalizar con el proceso de tallado y dar forma a la madera comencé a lijar toda la pieza hasta dejarla bien pulida, coloqué en la parte superior del tallo una pieza de metal para el collar. Por último sumergí en barniz protector el trébol y deje secar por algunos minutos, volví a lijar la pieza para después sumergirlo de nuevo en el barniz, y así quedó finalizado.

FINAL WORK

In ancient times, the origin of the clover as a symbol dates back to Celtic tradition. The ancient Druids considered the clover a sacred plant with the ability to attract the protection of the gods and connect with the forces of nature. They believed that wearing a clover could ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity. This beautiful four-leaf clover, due to its rarity (the result of a genetic mutation), has been considered a good luck charm for centuries. So, knowing all this, what do you think of the result? En la época más antigua el origen del trébol como símbolo se remontaba a la tradición celta. Los antiguos druidas consideraban el trébol una planta sagrada con la capacidad de atraer la protección de los dioses y de conectar con las fuerzas de la naturaleza. Creían que llevar un trébol podía alejar a los malos espíritus y traer prosperidad. Este hermoso trébol de cuatro hojas, por su rareza (resultado de una mutación genética), ha sido considerado un amuleto de buena suerte durante siglos. Así que sabiendo todo esto, qué les ha parecido el resultado?
