I started homeschooling in the 90s, when there were still few families doing it. Over the years, I helped grow the movement by encouraging friends and teaching specialized classes at coops. After more than 3 decades, I am now the grandmother of homeschooled children and in the coops I am now teaching the children of students I taught. I can't begin to describe how blessed I am!
This year I am teaching at 2 different coops. At one small coop I am doing a new class I call "Literature Out Loud" in which I will lead high schoolers in reading British literature aloud. We will use an anthology and the Bible as our source material (and possibly do only Shakespeare in the spring.) Reading out loud seems to be a dying art, but I refuse to let it go down without a fight.
At the large coop where I am a board member, I am teaching my usual Advanced Math (trig/analyt geometry) and Physical Science, as well as beginner knitting. I have also created a new class I call "Earth-Space-Art" for grades 4-6 in which we will learn about the planets and stars while creating an illustrated notebook and some astronomy-themed art projects.
Teaching keeps me young, and hopefully helps families provide the education they want for their precious children.

It's wonderful that you still have your finger in the pie, as the saying goes. I, too, homeschooled my children, and perhaps I will still have a chance to help a little with a grandchild here and there. The first one was homeschooled for 2 years, then went to a private school. Her younger brother will start kindergarten at home this year. He's so busy, I can't imagine him sitting still for 5 minutes. Due to family circumstances, his cousin has been in daycare/preschool and will likely have to attend public school next fall. I live too far away to help all the time. I think I would enjoy teaching at a co-op, but am completely out of touch with the local homeschool community, not having done any homeschooling since 2010.

We can't always help with all the grandchildren, but we do what we can when we can. For the past 2 years we have started a bit of a "cousins week" with our 4 grandchildren where they spend the week with us doing various things both ordinary and weird. Art, science, pool time, etc. You will enjoy contributing what you can, when you can, I am sure. !BBH

That sounds like a fun idea! I'll have to ponder it.
Brilliant!
I also get my (Japanese) students to read passages out loud; it is very good practice and not simply for language learning.

Involving all the senses in learning sure helps the brain make connections faster and better, IMO. To improve my German I listen to an audio Bible in German and sometimes read aloud in German just to get that ear input. Writing is also important, with a pen or pencil on paper. I am thinking of doing a class next semester where we write passages in cursive and decorate them--like medieval monks. I know I would have fun doing that. !BBH

A biblical calligraphy course could be wonderful...
