Si nos preguntaran ¿Cuál es la característica más atractiva del béisbol como deporte? Respondería: la oportunidad de redención. Un largo camino ha tenido que recorrer nuestro país en todos los aspectos, desde aquel 2009, cuando se truncaron los sueños en semifinal. Y ya va siendo bastante tiempo desde que los venezolanos deseamos jugar, al menos, una final en el Clásico Mundial de Béisbol. Se trata de un deporte que escaló las preferencias del público cuando en 1941, la generación de oro amateur, se trajo la copa mundial desde La Habana a nuestro país por un marcador de 3 carreras a 1 frente al equipo local. Así las cosas, estamos hablando de 86 años sin saborear la mieles triunfadoras del deporte nacional, con lo cual el compromiso de ese pasado de oro recae con fuerza en las nuevas generaciones ¿Podríamos acceder a la final? Bueno, la pelota es redonda, pero primero habrá que ganarle al menos dos de los tres equipos favoritos (uno de ellos se irá por eliminación con otro): Japón, Estados Unidos y República Dominicana.

If we were asked, "What is the most attractive characteristic of baseball as a sport?" I would answer: the opportunity for redemption. Our country has come a long way in every aspect since 2009, when our dreams were dashed in the semifinals. And it's been quite some time since Venezuelans have longed to play, at least, in a World Baseball Classic final. It's a sport that rose to prominence in the public eye when, in 1941, the golden generation of amateur players brought the World Cup from Havana back to our country with a 3-1 victory over the home team.
