Pero llegó julio (el mes, no el cantante) y todo se mezcló un punto homogéneo, que tales equipos cedieron poco a poco su ventaja. Si los Tigres aún tienen ventaja es porque supieron administrar el excelente arranque. No así los Dodgers. Al culminar el mes pasado, nueve equipos tenían diferencias de máximo 5 juegos entre sí. El oeste de la liga la enseñorea los Astros de Houston, quienes han visto reducir su ventaja con las series finalizadas ayer, en 2.5 juegos de ventaja. Over in the AL West, the Houston Astros are still holding court, though their lead shrank to just 2.5 games after wrapping up yesterday’s series. Now comes the hard part—fending off the surging Mariners and the scrappy Rangers. As for the Angels and A’s, they’re licking their wounds, hoping the trade deadline shakeups paid off by adding some fresh blood to their farm systems. In the National League, it’s pure fire. The East is a dogfight: the Mets sit half a game behind Philly, and this battle’s going down to the wire (no political puns intended). Miami, Atlanta, and Washington are non-factors in the October equation-although the Marlins just swept the Yankees, go figure. It’s anyone’s guess who’ll top the division when the dust settles, but one thing’s clear—both teams are playoff-bound, one as the champ and the other through the Wild Card.
